NA FC -- Boiling coolant? or something?
Hi everyone --
I have the weird NZ/Middle East spec NA FC, the one with the S5 body, S4 engine, GSL-SE ignition system and no catalytic converter.
Less than 58k miles on it.
So... a couple of days ago I started getting the "add coolant" buzzer on, when running the engine cold -- in other words, only for a couple of seconds every time I turned my FC on.
I went to a gas station 2 days ago, and got coolant in it.
The buzzer obviously stopped going on, perfect.
Last night I took my car for a pretty "spirited" drive, redlining and such, and when I finally stopped at my garage, I noticed the following:

That's me going nuts around the car, while hearing something bubbling/boiling... I guess it's coolant?
This never happened to me before, am I screwed or something?
The weird thing is, I turned the engine on after hearing this bubbling/boiling sound, and it went away by itself after lettting it idle for a couple of seconds. I also checked the temperature gauge on my dash, and it seemed normal, as usual, half-way up.
What should I do, other than panicking?
Please, anyone, help!

For the buzzer to only go on for a couple seconds, that means there is almost enough coolant around the coolant sensor. Engine vibrations or something kicked the coolant around and "fixed" it.
I believe the bubbling noise is moving coolant with air getting in/out from one place to another. If it was boiling, your temp would be off the scale.
I'm gonna guess that there's a lot of air in the cooling system, but I dunno. Try removing the radiator cap and pulsing the hoses several times, adding coolant as needed. This is a sucky way to get air out of the system, but at least it might tell you if you have a lot of air in there. If you're able to add a lot more coolant after doing this, then that means you just removed a ton of air. If so, get the Lisle funnel to easily and thoroughly get the rest of the air out. Do a forum search to hear all the accolades it gets, do a google search to buy one.
If you follow the links on www.aaroncake.net you'll find a thorough cooling systems diagnostics page. And if you don't already have an OEM thermostat, it's never a bad idea to switch to one. Even if you're not having any thermostat-related problems yet. Try a Mazda dealer, www.rx7.com, or Mazdatrix.

open your bleed screw on the side of the radiator at the top and add coolant. have you got any coolant in there or is it just water? how many times have you added water and reduced the boiling point of your coolant
