na diff questions

i have a s5 na rear end and im trying to build a fc with a cheap drift setup.
im gonna do a turbo2 engine and tranny conversion and get a mazdatrix driveshaft to hook up the turbo 2 tranny to my na rear end.
ive heard of people talking about welding thier diff "shut". just wondering if anybody has done this or herd of it and what is the ups and downs about doing this.

dont know if anyone has done it on an FC, but basically what it means is they weld the differential in a way that doesnt let the inside and outside wheels spin at different speeds. In straightl line driving this isnt an issue, but when turning the outside wheels covers a greater distance and if the diff is locked (welded) the inside wheel has to spin at the same speed. That results in the inside wheels breaking traction and can make for a huge turning radius. Great if you want to limit rear end traction, not great if you want to drive the car around.

very well defined... yes it basically just locks the two rear wheels to spin at the same time all the time. I have heard stories of these braking alot sooner... if your n/a already has an LSD you should be fine. welding a diff just depends on what you want... for a daily this would not work out

DONT DO IT it'll save you money and beating the crap out of your car when your **** blows... trust me been there done that "fc's require good jobs and money NOT cob jobs and whinnying!!!!" MY SAY

nissan guys do that alot. its just a really cheap way of converting an open diff. it helps them get sideways better, but DO NOT do this on a DD.

Remember, what's acceptable to some may not be acceptable to others.

Do it if you want, but remember the advice given by everyone here.
