n00b question: Window motor or switch?
hey guys, i'm sure that this has been addressed already somewhere and i've tried searching in the Search area for "window" "power window" "window stuck" and i didnt find anything useful... in any case, if you can help me out, that would be cool in either linking it here or replying, thx ahead of time.
My little brother rolled down the windows all the way and of course it doesnt want to roll back up. I took out the motor and track (of course detached the window), cleaned it up... sprayed some lub on and plugged the switch and the motor. The "carrier" is in the full down position and of course i can't get it to go up when everything is plugged in.
So i wasnt sure if it would be the motor (which i've read rarely goes bad) or the switch???
i have an 87 TII.

i recently had a similar problem, but both up and down i would have to try 3-4 times before the window would go up or down. it turned out to be the switch. get a flat head screw driver and pop the switch out of the door. disconnect the wires and disassemble the switch. inside you will find 4 little brass arms, and the contact points on mine were completely corroded. i sanded them down with 180 grit sand paper until the black was gone, reassembled it pluged it in and it was fine. hope that helps.

<---switch problem also. but mine was the plastic arm inside the housing that throws the brass lead to the up or down contact. I cleaned the pieces off with denatured alcohol (with the switch unplugged, of course), and super-glued back into place. worked fine even after I totalled the car a year later.

hey guys thx for the advice.
i track down the problem to the wire contacts underneath the switch, would seem that the wire contacts are either lose or not quite touching the the switch unit...
i've already sanded down the brass contacts and stuff inside... wasnt until that i started to just move the wires down underneath did it really click to me... would seem like i'm going to have to sawder up all the connections down there... i'm guessing i'll just do both sides since i have at least the driver side apart.
I appreciate you guys help.

The contacts on the S5 switch are tricky to reassemble after cleaning.
It's better to seperate the top & bottom of the switch and clean (with the contacts assembled) with spray contact cleaner.
