N/A upgraded cluth help...

I have an 88 GXL and want to get a new clutch. I want something very streetable but an upgrade. I am definitely going to have headers & freeflowing exhaust, intake, possibly lager fuel injectors & pump or NOS later. What exact clutch would be good. I am thinking ACT puck styke, but where & which one exactly? Thanks.

For low power applications like a GXL I would strongly recommend a street/strip style clutch. No need to spend tons of money on a clutch that you won't take full advantage of.

ACT's are good, and I like the way the Centerforce Stage II feels even though most people will tell you to stay away from Centerforce.

I'd say get either an ACT or a Centerforce, both would be more than good enough for your car, I suggest taking the best deal.

If you want something cheap to get by on, which you say you don't, I have experience with the basic clutch from www.rx7.com . It works well enough, and it's cheap. I'd rather have an ACT or Centerforce though.

If you have a few extra bucks grab yourself a lightened flywheel to install while you're down there.

Yea I am thinking of the street/strip style from ACT from rx7store.net. Its 299 there, is there any cheaper place? That sounds like a good price but cheaper is always better. Thanks.

o yea...

How hard is it to change a clutch? I mean I think that is has to be done right & its not one of those things I want to chance. How much would someone charge me to put it in do you think? Thanks.

Seriously, go price a Centerforce somewhere. The ACT isn't that much better, especially considering the amount of power you're running through it.

I don't mind doing clutch jobs, I've done quite a few of them. Except I have a lift and a transmission jack available to me so that makes it easy. If you think you can do it with the car on jack stands then I'd say go for it, but I don't know if I would ever do that or not.

To have somebody else do it you're probably looking at ~8 hours of labor. So the entire thing could cost as much as, or more than $800.
