N/A to Turbo (Yes I have searched haha)
Hey all I just need a quick opinion. I have my 87 GXL and I am about ready to buy the GP auto sports bodykit, paint job, new interior, exhaust, some other mods, I got the money all ready.
But speed is also a big factor, and I know that I would love a turbo. However, there is a multitude of parts I would have to replace to be able to run a turbo on my n/a. So, you think I should try to find a turbo to trade for my GXL (newly rebuilt engine, runs great) OR just do everything I want to my GXL and then eventualy sell it for some good money, then go buy a TII as a project car?
Keep the GXL put in the wrench time make it nice and then sell it to start on a TII project car OR sell it now and try to grab a TII???
Thanks for any input!!
Chris

I'm one of those guys who LOVE N/A engines, so naturally I'd keep it N/A. But this isn't about me, it's not gonna be cheap (well it could be...check out rotary resurrection.com in the parts section you should find almost everything you need really cheap hypntyz owns the place if you wanna PM him...he's a really good guy). Finding a parts car is the cheapest way I believe, but I'd rather turbo an N/A if I had to go turbo since you have higher compression...it's just better to me. But if you do that, you can't run as much boost (you could, but it's much easier to start with a turbo if you want high boost). Good luck in whatever you do though. Either way check out http://www.rotaryresurrection.com for parts...and if you need an engine they're also very well priced.

Also note that in my book, turbo is the EASY WAY OUT...if you want some satisfaction (do you really need to beat everyone in a straight line...no, plus remember there is ALWAYS someone faster than you so let the dream of being fastest go...someone will always be thinking the samething as you and working to make their car faster than you so you'll never win if that's what you're going for...maybe for 1 day...but not forever) then stay N/A and you'll appreciate all the power you have (which is nothing to sneeze that I might add), it'll also teach you to drive your car and not just the engine. In the long run it'll be better for you anyway...
Remember that's just my .07 cents.

Yep.
I was hardcore NA...
I'd still love to open upen up my hood and see a completely stripped down carbed NA tuned tight to 200 hp at 9000 rpms.... but that's just not that cool for the street... and LOUD!
I love the sound of my turbo- for me that was 50% of the advantages. The other 50% was frying my tires up at 40km/hr just by rollling my foot forward!

I have driven many a boosted car, but nothing compares to the N/A engine to me. I don't care about lighting the tires up (although it looks cool sometimes), or killing people at stoplights (once again, it's fun sometimes)...I'm all about the drive. And that my friend is something I just can't get better from a turbo.

im all with KiyoKix i got a N/A and i love the all motor feel just hearing the engine go to insane RPM's is just a blast and having people flip out when you take it to 9 grand when thier rev limiter or engines can only take 6 7 or maybe 8 outta the powerband.

I just searched and found his nice thread :P I am planning to pick up a 89 N/A for pretty cheap..body is in very nice condition so i am really tempted to doing that. I am looking at the http://www.rotaryresurrection.com/ website right now. I see what i need to complete the conversion... I would sit and figure out prices and stuff but i need to leave in 5minutes....so I am going to post and see if anyone could get me an estimate on how much this whole conversion would cost
Thank you
Thank you

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
I spent about $7000 on mine, but a bought a lot of new parts (like a FMIC) and rebuilt a Jspec before putting it in.
But my 'vert only cost $2500, So I got a Z3/boxster/S2k eater for $10k

since your n/a engine is somewhat fresh, why don't u get a t2 on top of it and keep ur n/a as a daily... if you could scrounge up the $$ (i'm assuming you can, since you're splurging on a gp sports kit, paint job and a new interior) you'd eventually have your cake and eat it too.
