I've got a few simple questions which should help.
1: What engine management are you using?
2: What is your budget. Be realistic!
3: How long have you been driving? (how old are you?)
Installing a turbo on an n/a is far more of a task than just slapping a manifold, turbo, and intercooler on. You need to factor in how you are going to control it all. You need to address the fuel system as well as the exhaust among other things. There is probably going to be some form of customization that will be needed as well which may or may not be easy or cheap. It all takes time which actually begs for more questions. How long can your car be down? Is this your daily driver/primary mode of transportation? If it is your primary transportation are you OK with paying more to fill up everytime since you won't be using regular anymore? Remember, it's an on going expense that is generally more expensive just to drive.
You need to think many things through really well. Why do you "want to beat Mustangs"? Who cares? I'm on my 4th RX-7 right now. It's a '90 n/a. I'm quite happy with it. My 3rd RX-7, which I still have, is an '84 GSL-SE that is streetported with a standalone etc. My 2nd RX-7 was a '90 n/a but it was a rustbucket and I got rid of it. My first RX-7 ended up around 400 rwhp before finally being parted out in shame several years ago. I kept pulling it apart to do more and more things and it never went back together. That was a budget issue that didn't match reality. Of these cars my favorite is my current '90 n/a. It's also the slowest. Speed isn't everything. The car is still lots of fun. I don't race anyone. I don't care. A good friend of mine lost his license for 2 years because he did care who he could beat. He was a real estate agent. How many real estate agents can sell houses with no transportation? He doesn't do that anymore. Wanting to beat others cost him his license and his job. Think about that the next time you want to beat a Mustang. I suspect you're still a teenager. If so, my advice is to learn how to drive first and just stay n/a.
