N/A, T2 swap cost

i know this has been asked alot, but no one gives a good price on what it cost?
lets say i got a junker 7 and the engine and trans was okay how much do you think a shop would charge for the swap? although if i had a engine life how hard would it be? ive read alot about it and doesnt seem that hard.

As posted many times before:

It can be as cheap as $500 or as expensive as $10,000

It just depends on what you do with your old parts and how much you pay for your new or used parts.

ya, i know its been posted before somewhere, but i had to ask for myself. lets say the cheapest way offcoarse would be to buy a junker and transplant them myself, even though i've never done it before, for under a grand.

I think if you are doing it yourself, a Jspec engine and USspec Turbo harness and US spec Turbo ECU (and assorted other parts) would be the cheapest.

If you can sell your old motor, that will help offset the cost.

But most Jspecs are ready for rebuilding.

Its good to have a donor T2 for the swap, if you get all the parts its gona be a pain in the ***.

Also, is the rear end and driveshaft NEEDED for the swap or can i bolt the turbo 2 with the t2 tranny and drop it in the NA body?

Doesn't anybody read the links in the FAQ or search???

I mean damm it man... its only been posted like 500 times.

to answer that same question again:

To do it right, you need to swap the whole drive train.

If you need to budget it, you just swap the engine.

The Turbo tranny does not bolt up to the N/A rear end, and either a custom driveshaft or a Turbo drive shaft and drilled N/A rear end would be needed if you are just doing the engine and tranny.

No, you use the rear counter weight based on what motor you put in.

OK, there are multiple ways of doing ti so the cost will vary depending on new and used parts along with hookups.

I am doing it right now to my 88 GTU so I have the best model to start off with.

I bought a Dead core long block shipped to my house for $640.
I plan to get it rebuilt by RotaryResurrection for estimated $1350 plus shipping est.$600

I am trading my dead engine block for a TII tranny so that works out for me.

I bought a new Clutch Slave cylinder for around $30 plus $20 for stainless braided line.

I am buying Mazdatrix's TII Tranny to NA rearend driveshaft. estimated $310 after shipping.

I bought new silicon hose to redo lines. $15

Bought a new Upper Radiator hose $12

Autometer boost gauge $49

Got N333 ECU for $30-45 I think(can't remember)
Got HKS FCD for $55 used

Got Wiring harness/Stock TID/TII Fuel pump/and pressure sensor for $70(friend hooked me up! THX!!!!)

Going with RB or CS Downpipe and midpipe estimated $300

Plus other small parts I haven't come across yet like Thermostat ($18OEM) Radiator Cap,fuel filter, oil, coolant, oil filter,etc..........

I have the major components though and hope to be putting the engine in around Christmas.
While the motor is being rebuilt I plan to port the waste gate on the stock S4 turbo and port/clean parts like manifolds.

So far It's totalled around $3400. It's more than I thought in the beginning but at first I was going to do a Jspec and run that but a rebuilt will save me a whole world of trouble later on.

Don't use the NA Tranny!!!!
It's not meant for the power of a TII. You can use it but you can't modify the engine or go crazy on it or you run the risk of blowing the tranny.

Also the above price tallied up does not include me selling parts off once I get the car running.
like wiring harness/ECU/Tranny/etc....
