N/A Hoods?

Did the N/A's come with a lightweight aluminum hood. I know the T2's had a heavy steal hood (like mine) and a light weight aluminum hood. So I was wondering if the N/A's had something similar?

I just read somewhere recently that the GTU came w/ an aluminum hood. It may have just been 89-91 though.

Many '86 models came with alluminum hoods, including base models. Very few if any Sports did. I think most convertibles had them. Random hood selection was the Mazda way during the second generation RX-7 model run.

I believe that the GTUs came with an aluminum hood. They are kind of hard to come by. My friend bought a GTUs, but the previous owner got into an accident and replaced the aluminum hood with a steel hood.

The 88 GTU, all the 'verts, the GTUs all came with aluminum hoods as well as some of the 86-88 GXL and Luxury coupes that generally had either rear seats or auto tranny, but because of production issues it is not unusual to see any 86-87 with an aluminum hood.

I thought I read somewhere that you just can't bolt an AL hood on where a steel one used to be.. something about the metal reacting to each other.. is this true?

Also how much does it cost to paint a hood? My steel hood has mad dings in it and I have been thinking of getting an AL.. if I can find one.. and having it painted

That is true Jsotelo, you need to use the Alum hood's hinges and latch, they are electrically isloated and won't have the electrolitic effect and dissolving of the alum.

the weight difference is something like thirty pounds. You can lift an aluminum with one hand, the steel one takes two.

If anybody in the South East wants one, I'll trade for a TII hood (aluminum or steel). Hood is faded navy blue (heh).

no its only about 20 lbs...

the painted steel one is 52 lbs and the painted alum ones are about 35 lbs.
