Clokker is right as usual, I replaced that sensor on my engine and it was a hell of an obscure angle to get to. Definitely replace it if it's not connected, you need to be able to monitor your temperatures! There are two types available on Atkins, make sure you get the right one.

Thank you. I thought there was only the one for the warning buzzer on the radiator
And I'm assuming this one

That would be the one. I've seen a few break over the years when people can't get the connector off. They wiggle the connector at an angle and the brittle plastic just doesn't hold up well. At least when you replace the sender you should have a working temperature gauge on the instrument cluster...provided that the wiring, grounds, and the gauge itself are all in good working order. Let us know how it goes.
Can an aftermarket sender be put there instead? Thread pitch?
The factory thread pitch is some gawdawful British taper which has 28 threads per inch instead of the American standard 27 tpi.
Why an otherwise all metric Japanese machine would employ either of those relics of the steam age is beyond me, but you'll have that.
Anyway, the short answer is yes, a standard 1/8-27 pipe thread will work, just don't go crazy.

that's what I thought I remembered reading. Thanks!

Clokker answered your thread pitch question..but There is a coolant plug near the front Steering bracket on an iron that you can get an adapter for and run a aftermarket sender there.
That is one easy way.,
Other ways are putting in a in-line hose adapter for a sender or tapping the thermoneck(S4) or the back of the waterpump.

Yup, it's a hex plug just towards the bottom the front iron (lots easier to get to if you don't have AC or PS) and it's 14mm, IIRC.
I have run a temp sender there and can verify it provides the same reading as the stock location.
I believe that cold market cars run block heaters in that port.
I've seen the "block heater" as an attachment on the irons. It just bolts on and looks like a kettle filament.
I have that style of "block heater" for my S4 engine, its a heating element that bolts to the side of the engine, only mine goes around the front housing spark plug holes. It's ugly as hell, and I only install it when I drive in winter.

I'd only use it to make tea...lol..as I would not drive my car in winter..let alone ALBERTA winters. They are brutal!.Been there..hate it!

M16. I just bought an adapter for it.
Beware, the AutoMeter adapter that you can buy doesn't fit there - it flares out too much. I bought one from GlowShift and it works like a charm.
Anyone else read what ol clok says with the little picture and see him retorting with a HEAVY laugh like "haha you silly shrew, it's the Wayne's word flux capacitor of course." Lol. It's like, no bro. One I didn't know that and it's super good info. Two your hilarious with how you use a Harvard style employment of word. And three why are you still laughing at me so hard. Seriously mean this with no disrespect and only with alot of respect and love bro! I fricken enjoy the **** out of it, and that's how I read EVERYTHING you say.
