Yeah I thought about taking the rest of the coating off and just have the brushed finish.

or you could paint them whatever color you wanted to. It's pretty simple, just make sure the wheels are clean and smooth.

I used the mothers powerball on one of my wheels with the peeling coating and it just the wheel shinier and didn't fix the peeling any. How do you take the coating off? Will aluminum acid do the trick? I have a gallon of that for my aluminum trailer. Is the wheel clear coat something that is at most parts stores, perhaps pepboys?

Isn't this called "Refinishing" the rim?

Mine also needs a refinish.

I'd thought about painting mine (wheels) black and then just polishing the outer rim to leave a small 'ring' of shiney-ness. I can't decide whether it will make them look more modern or just crap!

I am going to do the same, but waiting until spring when it gets warmer to do so. I have the seven spokers.
