my water pump pully is hitting the actual water pump housing

i have my engine out of the car and since im doing the complete rebuild i opted to change the water pump. well i got a water pump from a mazda dealer. but i guess now adays they are starting to come as remans. well i installed it and everything looks good. i go to put the pulley and once i tighten the pulley down i hear a dragging sound. i look and the pulley is hitting the housing. well i eyed the line up with the crank pully and it seems to be onpoint. but why would the pulley hit the housing. (i might add that i painted both the housing and the pully but that still shouldnt close the gap between them ) anyone help me out here

Wrong pully or water pump. There should be aboout 0.75 CM of clearance.

I know if you use a Zenki water pump housing (and water pump) and try to stuff it on a Kouki front cover, it won't fit.

But this sounds like something else...

you can get new pumps still, they have to look into ordering in the old number. those reman pumps are junk, if you're going to the dealer to buy factory parts they should give you a factory part, not some bs that you can get anywhere
