My wastegate doesn't stand a chance...

Well I went for a little Sunday stroll today with my TII and I decided I would take out the silencer in the muffler to have a little more fun. I was driving around nicely letting the car warm up a little more and decided to have a little fun and hit the gas hard. My wastegate was holding on for dear life until 3rd gear (ooops 15psi). That sucked. After that I hit the interstate and on the onramp I had an open lane and just let the car go and (I wasn't speeding or anything) accidentally hit 18 psi in 3rd. After that I decided to take it easy again and drive home. I pulled the TID off to check if the turbine had any more play than usual. I was lucky I guess. Time to get an external wastegate and bigger turbo.....

Pull the turbo off and port the wastegate. You don't list any fuel mods in your sig. Unless you lower the boost to 8-9psi (either with wastegate porting or less right foot), I predict engine failure soon...

I only have a walbro 255 for and upgrade but have freshly cleaned stock 550's, new fuel filter, and new fuel lines from the tank back. Noting special.

I have never driven the car hard with the silencer out except for today. I guess there's a reason for that. I normally keep the silencer in and that helps maintain the boost at a solid 10 psi. I followed fc3spro.com's writeup when porting my wastegate and removing the twin scroll. I replaced the stock flapper with a aprox. 1 inch valve from some unknown motor. The opening is about 22-23cm.

Trust me I wont be doing this anymore.

you didn't port it properly.

and the walbro still isn't enough to companesate for those boost levels, feel lucky the motor didn't let go.

Let me say this for the record. " I didn't mean to hit that psi of boost" I took my eye off the boost gauge for a second and oops, 18 psi.

Before upgrading your turbo you might want to switch out the secondaries with some 720's, and perhaps an aftermarket FPR..

What PSI would the Walboro be good for?

Really?! I ran 19.6 PSI on a walbro with a 60-1 and my IDCs never exceeded 78%.

Ted - Thanks for the real wonderful comment but don't you think I know that.

Rotorforce - I try no to state the obvious whenever I can. I know that I will need to upgrade the injectors when I upgrade the turbo.

Understandable...but don't expect me to assume that you are going to upgrade the fuel system. But heck I guess my .02 was worthless in this thread.

I'm not trying to be mean or create any bad juju but I see on here all too often people assuming certain things on here. I didn't mean to sound rude.

speedholes - I'm not sure what you are saying. Do you mean I couldn't wait?

i think what he meant was...

the walbro wont compensate for that boost level at HIS setup... which is just a FCD....
