My wacky oil pressure problem
Ive done a search and everyones problem seems to be the same but my problem is just the opossite. I have an 88TII, rebuilt engine with aprox. 30k on it. Still have factory turbo though and factory oil pressure gauge. My problem started tonight when I noticed my pressure was at like 30psi @3500rpms. It is normally around 95 psi at that rpm. So I pulled over and checked my oil level and I had oil in the engine. So I preceded on with caution, at idle psi is @ about 30. I take off and go through the gears and psi rises with rpms till I level out at a constant speed. When I do this psi drops to almost 0(ZERO). However, if I let up on the gas and coast, the psi comes back up over 60psi. I did this tactic numerous times to see if the result was the same after I noticed it.
Why would the oil psi rise when I let up on the gas and sit a zero at 3000-3500rpms when it used to be at 95psi? And whiy is the oil psi at 30 at idle, just like normal? Also my g/f said the ehaust smelt like something was burning, but there was noticable smoke since it was dark out.

Ignore the stock oil pressuer gauge - it's only good to tell you if you got oil pressure or not.
Get an aftermarket oil pressure gauge and tell us the real numbers...
