My Tach stoped working!!!
Just as subject says.
Where should I look first?
Now my Speedometer AND Tach dont work, a double negative 8* (
What exactly makes the tack work? I know there is a wire that goes to the coil W/igniter, but what else besides that?
Thx for the help.

hey Anderson, first things first, check to see if all your plugs are workin correctly. If you have a double negative.....take off the steering shroud and the cluster , check the wires in the back. May sound dumb, but check it....see if the odometer reads correctly. Thats my little speal! hope it works!!

If so whats the proper amunt and where do I check exactly.
I'm expecting my new speedo cable to come in on tuesday so I'll have to take the cluster out anyways.
how many plugs are behind the dash cluster anyways?
Is there jsut one with all the wires or a diff one for the Tach that may have cam loose?

just a thought: when i do my Unflood-procedure, i take out the injector fuse. and when it gets put back in, it makes the tach needle jump (the car is off). sometimes, if its not installed a certain way, the tach wont WORK.
for instance, i unflooded it, had my dad reinstall the fuse, the car started, and the tach read 0. after running for a min, i looked at the fuse, it was upside down (the #s were upside down, not as in "the terminals were pointing UP") i pulled the fuse out, plugged it back in so that it was in the same orientation as the others, and my tach worked when i restarted the car.
*shrugs* who knows

Hmmmm This seems to make a lot of sense because I let my brother borrow my car today and that the onlyways he knows how to unflood it. I'll take a look at it in the morning. Actualy I'll go outside now and check lol its 2:37 AM and IO have nothing better to do.
Thx.

I seem to remember something about how the tachometer works off of the trailing coil system. So you might want to check that out. Also make sure that the body to engine ground is still good. Mine went bad and my whole system started going haywire, including the tach.

My tach stopped working .... I had a new starter installed and it worked fine after the starter was installed. The exact same thing happened to Wan. His tach wasn't working than when he replaced his starter the tach started working again. I don't know what the starter has to do with the tach but it does affect it.

Does the shift up indicator still work?
If so you are gettiung a tach signal and chances are you have a cold solder joint in the tach/cluster itself.

flubyux2, you were right.
When I checked the fuses, ALL of them seemed to be upsidedown. I never thought fuse with a this pice of metal can be the cause of that. but I guess there is more to it than that.
Thanx.
BTW none of the tach related stuf worked, no shift up, no buzzer. But all is fine now.
