Is my sunroof broke? I need Advie!
My sunroff doesn't work. The motor for it works but the sunroof doesn't. Is it off track or just totally broken. I also need to know if it is fixable cab i do it myself or should i take it to someplace? THank you for all your help!
Wow, I too have that problem... mine's stuck closed and doesn't leak though
The motor goes ka-chunk, ka-chunk, ka-chunk but the roof doesn't go with it. I hope someone here knows what's going on, because I don't feel like ripping my headliner out with no idea of what's going on!

The rods that move the roof up first are probably dirty, or broken. If you push the open button while gently pressing up on the rear of the roof does it move back?
Thats what mine does. Just have to help it slide up a little, then its fine on its own-

yea...mine had the same problem...the motor sounded strong but it wouldn't move. Then I just gently pushed the back of the sunroof and it popped open and works fine now. Every now and then it will get stuck again, but you just give it a little love tap while holding down the open switch and it should open up.

The reason the sun roof stops working in most cases is because the grease used to lubricate the inner workings has lost the lighter ends and dried up. The mechanism is subject to a lot of heat since it is right under the roof panel. As a result the drive system becomes gummed up and starts being sporatic and eratic in opening and closing. Eventually it stops working all together.
I bought a used assembly and rebuilt it when I had some spare time. It is a bit of a fiddly job and takes some patience to do it right. Everything has to be taken apart, cleaned, and re-lubricated. Brake cleaner works good for degreasing and cleaning. I used a good high temperature grease in it when reassembling. I then swapped it with my old one. This made the repair a replacement so I could get it done in a few hours rather than having the car out of use for a day or two. The service manual does a reasonably good job of expaining the removal and installation procedure for the sun roof, but you are really on your own doing the overhaul of the unit. Mine works fine now.
From some of your descriptions, it appears that some of the drive units may require parts too.
Sounds like maybe I could start up a small exchange business if I rebuilt my old assembly.

Yeah, mine is like that, but it works fine, it's just you have to give it a little push to help it get out of the closed position, then it's hands free
I put WD-40 on mine once and it kept it from doing that but eventually it stoped and I had to keep putting WD-40 on it.
