My stuck on flywheel

I’m in the process of changing my clutch and everything was going smooth until the flywheel. I got the flywheel nut off with my impact gun in 15 seconds but the flywheel just would not budge. Hitting it with a mallet, prying on it but nothing, I even broke my puller trying to pull the flywheel off. So since it’s on there I hand sanded it for about an hour or so. Here are some pictures, what do you guys think?

theres lots of pictures.

http://members.shaw.ca/redrx7/

should i make it smoother? the pictures are with 80 grit sand paper
.

Find a nice flat spot on the outside edge, where the clutch disc doesnt hit, get a piece of wood, and a heavy hammer, not a rubber mallet. Hit the wood on the flywheel fairly hard until you hear the pitch of the ding change, when you do the flywheel will come off in your hands.

When installing a new clutch, you should always re-surface the flywheel to get rid of hot spots and uneven surface.

When you are hammering away on the flywheel, make sure you're not hitting the gears.

imagine the black socket as the nut screw the nut on so it's even with the e-shaft then get a piece of this steel building iron and screw it on and pop you arent breaking that puller

This is how I do it and it’s been very successful so far. First I put the nut back on about half way so that the flywheel won’t land in your lap when it comes off. Then I use a cheap puller just to put some tension on the flywheel. Then I use a hammer to hit the outer edge of the flywheel. It should only take about 4 good licks to pop it off. If that don’t work put more tension on the flywheel with the puller then hit it again. I can pop them off in less that 5 min. with this procedure.

Yeah, don't be discouraged. It WILL come off. The first time I pulled my TII's motor to rebuild it, the flywheel came off pretty easily with a block of wood and a regular hammer. Just recently though, when re-rebuilding, I had a MUCH more difficult time. I actually caused the 2x4 to split lengthwise from my constant whacking. I was getting pretty frusterated, so I used my pent up rage to whack even harder... bingo, flywheel came off to my suprise after several animal like, full swing whacks. (of course rotate your whacks around the outer edge so that you're not just hindering your progress by causing it to bind up).

Good luck and just whack away...

I think I'm the only one who's flywheel came out easily. I'm wondering if that's a bad sign....

My dad used to use an impact wrench with a puller on some flywheels, might give that a shot.

find the key on the E-shaft and and then hit the oposit side of the flywheel from there, if you can find a dead blow hammer they work even better, anyways give the flywheel 4 good blows oposit to the key, then turn it 180 degrees and give it another 4 good blows at the edge of the flywheel where the key is, then turn it 90 degrees and give it another 4 good blows (on most of the flywheels ive taken off they usually come off of at this point, well actually all except my own) then turn it another 180 degrees and hit it directly oposit to that last shot. that should work. Also adding some heat to the center of the flywheel might help. Had to do that to get my own flywheel off.

Good luck, hope you get that flywheel off!!

I just went and rented another puller from part source and used my impact on it, tightened it with the impact as much as i could before the threads broke. then hit the Sh**T out of it and about an hour later of banging (with fricken ear plugs!) it let go. So in total, it took me 2.5 hours on Saturday, sunday i gave up and had a rest. and the hour today.

I forgot school today and got the flywheel machined and everythings back together and working perfectly.

Note to self: Work the extra day to pay for a shop to change the clutch next time.
