My semi-flat black paint job + Version Select Kit (56k ok!)

Just repainted the car in a semi-flat black. The body kit is a Version Select Kit (a GP Sport replica).
Click on these for bigger pics.

Honestly, if you give a monkey enough bananas, it can probably paint a car. The difference between a monkeys job and a professionals job is how good the paint looks

I think it looks good in mot of those pics. In person si the real test. most flat black fc's look like dirt, this one seems ok. More like satin black than primer black.

looks like a "fair" job but it's not really done right. Did you rattle-can it? The hood looks quite splotchy...but I don't like that hood to begin with so I'm biased aainst it already. The fenders look really smooth, though.

Don't listen to all the haters. I'm in the same boat. Nice job on yours.

I have a 2nd gen too, but this is the toy. And yes there are stripes on the hood and no it is not rattle can.

Cool hood. Fitment looks kinda crappy on the Version Select kit though (especially around the headlights). Nice FC!

Flat colored paint = waste of money!!

Since when is it cool to have oxidized looking paint?
What is the appeal of a "flat" color?
Do you like to look poor?
If you actually paid good money for that paintjob your an idiot.
You could of had the same results with Wal Mart paint. $0.99 per can!!
I think about 8-10 cans would have done the trick... Looking at $8-$10 in paint...

Next time I go look at a new car im going to tell the salesperson " I really like this car, but that glossy painjob just looks horrible. How could you even have something like that on your lot!?"

The car is filthy in that pic, but I'm not sure I'd say it's splotchy. Actually, the only spots that didn't come out smooth are those little marks on the front bumper where the can sputtered. And if you look closely, you can see this wierd two-tone kinda thing on the top of the car.

Since this kit was made for an S5, the fitment in the front wasn't great, there was quite a large gap The reason it's worse on one side is because my passenger fender and the headlight are still a little damaged from an accident.

As for the flat color thing, I was always against it and never understood it. Until I roughed the original black paint before I repainted it. I just finished painting it a blue with gold peal in the clear, but the clear went on pretty rough. I sanded it out a little, but it wasn't worth it. So I figured I'd give this "semi-flat" a shot because the flat black looked so good when I was prepping to paint it originally. On my site there's a pic where I tried to get the pearl to show up.

In real life it looks really clean. I'm still on the fence on whether or not I like this better than a gloss paint, but it's not so bad that I'm going to repaint it next week or anything. I only paid $2.50 a can and used 20 cans, so $50 bucks wasn't too bad for an experiment in painting. 8-10 cans might work if I did only a single coat and didn't have sideskirts to paint.

The hood is the prototype hood from AutoRnD. The real ones are made of CF and from what I understand their a good price. You'd have to contact them to find out for sure.

Oh and as for the BOV through the hood...why not?! I had never seen it before and I just wanted to see how it would look. The CF hood I had on there at the time was already damaged so no real harm in trying. The funny thing about that was the old center section in my turbo was shot, so everytime the BOV opened, it shot a nice spray of oil on to the hood.
