I have an 88 GXL, it sat for 2-3 years, but, go tit running, it ran pretty well, the cats were clogged so, I out on a straight pipe exhaust, as well as a cone filter and TB adapter. I drove it for about a year this way, then, I moved, an dput the car in the garage, it sat for about 3 months, I put a new PS belt on it, a new battery, and tried to start it, it wouldnt crank correctly, it woudl turn over liek flooded, then it would pause, then crank again. It floods every time it is shut off. I put new plugs in it along with new wires, got it to start up, it will not idle right, I have adjusted it, still nothing, as soon as I hit the gas pedal it drops rpm and dies, after 5-7 minuets of ideling itll start to miss and drop rpms till it dies. When it is running, to move it, you have to feather the gas up to aout 4-5,000 rpms to get ti to move, an dbump the clutch to go.

Also, seperatly, when i drove it daily, the car wouldnt go past 4-5000 rpms, it woudl spit an dmiss, I assume its injectors since it sat for so long, but not 100% sure. I think it may be alternator, but I have yet to check it. Any help? I can try to give more info if needed, the car refuses to start now, it crnaks over and over but will no tfire, jumping it will not produce enough power to fire the car up. Any help appriciated.

 

have you Changed the Fuel Filter on the car yet?..sounds like the Injectors are Dirty(that would be why you are flooding/hard starting),and the Filter is why you can't Get the Power..(because it can't Get the fuel pressure it needs to accomodate the Power increase)..so Long story Short..new Fuel filter/Remove and either Clean or Replace fuel injectors...I'll bet you if you Push Start the car it will run.You should Read up on DEFLOODING..It would come in Handy right now..Good Luck.(welcome..I see you have 8 posts!~)

 

when you removed the cats you may have removed the provisions for the 5th and 6th port actuators, this could cause some of your performance problems.

I am not a nw member, I have been here fo ra while, had an incident with m old computer getting hacked an dlost all info, I was wickedrotary, however, I have not changed th efilter, I do have one to put on it. The car did run fine before, and i thad the straight exhaust on it, the air pump tube was welded back onto the exhaust also. Ran fine, just didnt rev right, if I eased into the throttle, it would rev all the way to redline, but, a quick burst of throttle yeilded nothing but spitting and missing, Ill try to filter to see what happens, and I am tring to locate injectors, can't affor dnew ones, any ideas on why the brand new battery will die in a matter of hours, aka overnight?

 

If it sat some of the tank may have rusted and sent the rust to the injetors and makes them stay open, this is what happens to me, install a switch on the ground wire of your fuel pump relay until you can get your entire system clean. Check the filter take it off and run water though it backwards and see what comes out
