I'll actually be helpful here.

1) It seems you are saying you do have boost gauge. Does it read vacuum?

2) Report back your vacuum reading at idle. 16 in Hg is about right for a healthy engine. Less than this you may have a weak engine or a leak. You may need to convert units.

3) MOST IMPORTANTLY: Check for boost leaks. You'll need to put together a boost leak checker. Google it.

A quick example I found:

How To: Boost leak tester for $5.02 - evolutionm.net

Basically you just need to put pressure into the system (bike pump works) and listen for hisses. Any noise and you have a leak. Try to pump it up to 1 bar to simulate the system under pressure.

When I do this I typically pull off the intake to the turbo INLET and the other end is blocked by the throttle body. This will leak down a little bit, but again you are listening for external leaks.

Most likely you have a broken seam at the intercooler or a split hose that does not make itself known until under pressure.

Happy hunting

Curious. What if you have an s4 NA and you have 20in/hg at idle ?

The stronger the vacuum the better. If you are idling slightly high it can show a higher vacuum.

When you tune a carb car you st always adjusting for highest vacuum at target idle speed.

I think the 2" black rubber pvc pipe fittings at home depot work. Might be 2.5. It is a normal size at the hardware store

cbrok is dead nuts right on that vac comment.

i googled it and the hT18 is supposedly a 60mm inlet. however i can't determine if that ID or OD. either way i think a 2.5in hose coupler would work. its close enough that if its big it can be snugged down or jammed on.

I used a "dead end" plumbing cap and a tire valve.I also put a Pool gauge on the cap to monitor how much PSI went into the system.
You can get the cap to fit pretty well anything with various step down/up silicone couplers.

there was a company called "fighters-Garage" that sold stuff like this.I actually copied that design for my Tester,Then the Damn tester came in the mail..!
I can't seems to find them on the Internet search though.

yah i thin im gonna go build one. i think it can be useful for finding vac leaks on basically anything.

I also have an old carbed car that likely has more vac leaks than sold connections.
