My RX7 model is messed up

My rx7 came off the factory in september of 86 (1987). I was looking at the sticky posted in this form and still have no idea if I have the gxl or the sports coupe::

GXL:
I have power steering
I have airconditioning
I have the rear spoiler
i have the 15" wheels
I have cruise control
I have the sunroof
My steering wheel is not just rubber (its like vinyl)

Sports Coupe:
I don't have power windows
I have non-electric mirrors (but center console has wiring)
I don't have an illuminated key hole
I don't have vanity mirrors

I picked up my 7 for $5 and the fenders are replaced (not painted yet) and so I have no clue. I would like to think that my differential is limited slip. My interrior is grey and my seats are blue vinyl with white cloth (no pattern really) on the actual seating area.

I know this is a stupid question, but I am just so confused. Its like mine is a hyrbid of both... it lacks standard features of the gxl, but has stuff the sports coupe couldnt have. I think it was probably made too early to be an 87.5.

Curious and concerned,
Sar

You have a 87 sport.

Why do you think you have anything else??? The Sport is not some hybrid as you suggest.

Read the Standard features and options sticky thread at the top of the FC section.

and you do not have a LSD

Neither Car fax, nor the VIN will tell you what model is what.

Please don't post if you don't know.

The Mazda Machine strikes again Icemark sets things straight

Either way, I was going to chime in that it is definately NOT a GXL... but Mark beat me to it

I thought it might be the gxl because it has features such as the cruise control.. which is just one thing that was never offered.... at all until 87.5 according to the charts.

Cruise control was always a available dealer installed option on FC's that did not come with it from the factory.

I had the dealer install cruise on my 87 Sport when I bought the car new.

Sort of on topicish here, but what in the hell is the difference between the GXL and the GX? they don't mention it in the 87 brochure in the sticky within this forum..
At first I thought that it was L for leather or some ****, but the GXL brochure says that it has fabric seats... I've also checked my GX with that of the GXL feature list on the brochure and I don't have the same ****.
I bet its a canadian thing...

No, only base models and Luxury coupes/SE models had 4 lug wheels. Sport models came with the heavy duty suspension (the Turbo also later came with the heavy duty suspension) and the larger brakes...

Wouldn't be much of a sport model without heavy duty brakes and suspension now would it??? But it also came with the aero kit (as your rear spoiler is part of).

Again, please read the What the RX-7 came with standard features and options sticky thread at the top of the FC section!

The Canadian GX was the same as the US Luxury coupe/ SE model. (This question is covered in the FAQ for FC at the top of the page)

Yeah, when I bought my sport new at the dealer, I traded him the stock radio and front speakers for the Cruise control.

The heavy duty suspension consisted of heavy duty struts, bigger stablizer bars, heavy duty springs.

Again it was the same basic suspension that the Turbo later came with, and the 'verts came with.

I know this for a fact that Carfax will not give you a RX-7 sub model.. and yes I have tried that, and I use to have yearly account with Carfax.

The only thing carfax will tell you is if it is a Turbo, a Coupe, or a vert. It will not tell you if it is a GS, or GXL, or Sport, or GTU etc, because those things are not in the VIN.

When I did a carfax on my car it did tell me mine was a GTU...I have it printed out in front of me.

5 bucks!? I guess that's a typo. You could grab about any piece out of that interior and sell it for more than $5.

Then this is a new thing that they just started within the last 6 months, and I take back my comments.

But I am gonna run one myself and see...

OH look... no model info:

<copied directly from carfax:>
VIN: JM1FC3316H0500022
Year/Make/Model: 1987 MAZDA RX7
Body Style: Coupe
Engine Type: 1.3L ROTARY TURBO FI
Manufactured In: JAPAN
See if it was as people had suggested, then it would have said that the car was GS or a Sport as the window sticker does:

Of course the VIN I ran was for a 87 Sport... just like the thread originator has...
