my rx-7 opportunity
here's the deal. i've got the chance to get an 88 rx-7, 5-spd, moonroof --- $500. 17k miles on new engine. owner had it, put miles on the new engine, then let it sit for 2 years, now it doesnt run. i know its a damn good deal if its a cheap fix, but does anyone know what i could do to get it runnin? i'd like to at least make sure it wont be a money pit before i get it towed away, or (hopefully!!) drive it home. please email or respond with any comments or suggestions asap, as i need to act fast. thanks,
mike

i havent had a chance to talk to the guy in detail, but he made it sound like it just wont start. best i can figure, its the fact that the car has been sitting for 2 years - bad battery, gas, oil, etc. i'm going to try to talk to the guy in detail this evening.

appreciate it man. i'm goin to see tomorrow, its the guy's son sellin it (father sick/in hospital?). he didnt seem to know all the specifics, just that his dad put $4k into it, drove it for about a year an a half then bought a boat and a truck, never drove the mazda again. he said i can come out and try to start it tomorrow afternoon, so i figure i'll give it the ol clutch pop and see how that goes. otherwise, anything i should look for (sounds, smells, visual)? I know i'm askin a lot but its been a while since i've barked up the rotary tree, much less one that hasnt been driven in 2 yrs.

2 years is a long time for it to sit. I dont know that I would try to start it before either putting some gas stabilizer in there or draining the tank and putting new gas. If there is crap in the tank, it can clog the injectors, and be a real PITA to get started.
But anywho...do as you like. The stabilizer will get the water out of the gas if any has gotten in there from condensation and such.
Good luck.
