My new airbox

Ok finally got around to re-doing this one. Here are some pics of my new airbox that was made for around $30 or less. Cant take credit for it though, my dad made it, but enjoy the pics.

The difference is that you can fit a cone filter but I dont think there would be a performance gain unless you had cold air ducted into the air box.

Ya I took some pics of my hole, but the pic turned out way fuzzy. Look at my avatar, I have a hole behind the FTP lense hole. You can literally see the filter from the FTP hole, so its getting cold air too.

Thanks, maybe later. The only thing Im concerned about is not getting enough air, so I might do alittle more cutting metal.

Thanks Richard, you should try and make one, its not too hard. Get some card board and cut it to fit, then trace the pattern onto the AL and cut it to shape. Then bend it so that it fits. Thats about it. Then get some bolts or something to hold the lid to the box for access.

BTW- A general rule of thumb on n/a motors is 1% hp for every 10*F. For turbos it should be more because the difference gets "boosted" and amplified.

Looks nicer than mine but it would be a good idea to flip your AFM 90 degrees so that the ecu recieves correct numbers

Kim, Im not trying to be an ***. But does anybody have any proof that having it sideways affects the metering of the airflow? Whenever your holding it, gravity doesnt do anything to the door, so why would it matter when it is installed on your car?

If you can't see how it would mess with the input to the ECU you need a little help. I have run the car like that for a while and nothing happened. But remember we have a safety margin from the stok ECU so even if we were running a tad lean or rich we couldn't tell. I would guess a dyno test with a wide band could show some proof. :-/

You arent??? J/K
I dont really know, but im guessing that a "hanging" flapperdoor would need more vaccum to be pulled open than a horizontally one. I had mine like that for awhile but was told that it would give wrong numbers to the ECU so I changed the setup, because im a bit paranoid when it comes to my engine, I didnt feel any difference either, im just playing it safe

Nice airbox man. very well made, similar one i've got done.

On the subject of the AFM being mounted, I've had mine mounted similar to Bdoty's and on several occasions noticed a slight hesitation in revrange -4500-5000- rpms. I than remounted the AFM with "black box" facing upwards and the hesitation quickly vanished.

-Markus

"I've not seen it since" the hesitation that is.

Hold the AFM level (like stock) and shake it up and down like the car was going over bumps. Nothing happens. Not turn it sideways and repeat. The flap moves up and down a bit. An AFM that changes it's reading as the car moves on it's suspension is not a good idea...
