how of many of you daily drive a streetported 2nd gen? I mean i know there is higher gas consumtion and engines tend to blow faster but any other down sides?

i do. if you don't mind about the gas/less reliability then go for it.

A properly done streetport should have no effect on reliability...

As for gas consumption...just keep your foot out of it when you need to be worried about that and it will be fine

Well, I have about 360 miles on my rebuilt streetported motor. All I know, when I get to 4K, it starts to not run just right. Don't freak out, that's when I shift anyways. Was just wondering, when my motor is broken in, will my motor still not run right past 4K? I had a friend BP his 2nd gen and said it ran like **** past 3.5K. Is my worrying un-neccesary or is there certain things I must do to make it work right?

Sorry to steal the thread a little.

I'm guessing your secondaries are having a problem, since they come on at about 3800, hence the famous 3800 hesitation.

I was told once by a rotary shop that streetporing an engine does not affect reliability and may even help reliability due to more efficiently expelling the heated exhaust gasses. Don't know if it's true though.

Who says streetports have to get shitty mileage? Seth(cymfc3s) is running a huge streetport, and getting 24 mpg on the highway! Get a haltech and a proper tuning, it'll pay for itself in a year.

I get anywhere from 15-20mpg city to 25mpg highway. Not to bad at all. Only problem I've had is that it doesnt want to rev past 7500 (s5), and it doesnt like cruising at low (city 35-40mph) between 3k and 4k. Idle's kinda funky too, but that may be the flywheel + TB mod...

I'm getting 20 on mine. You can't not hit the gas at least once in a drive. It's impossible.

i get about 23 mpg on my streetport. i do have the safc tuned to -20% though.

i would say the port itself doesn't have an effect on the milage...it's the getting excited about having extra power that kills the mileage.

Took my street port from Seattle to SevenStock and back, 2497 miles at 28.53 mpg. Used cruz most of the time keeping it just under 3 grand. I only had the stock main cat in for the trip but its a gonner now.

No one is answering because this question gets asked twice a week on this forum. Check out the second gen archive for a thread "how to build a beefy NA"
