i just installed a stereo in my car a few days ago and every morning around 10 or 11 the stereo turns on. so my mom comes in and wakes me up frantically screaming about my car being posessed and turning the stereo on. i've figured out that it is caused by the sun heating up the dashboard and everything under the dash because when i cover the dash with one of those sun shields it doesn't happen.

does anyone know what is the precise cause of this problem? does anyone else's car do this?

 

My car does the same thing. I have to take the face off of the stereo or it comes on randomly and sometimes stereo doesn't turn off when I turn the car off. All this happens randomly, sometimes it does it and sometimes it doesn't.

I had the same problem when I put a Clarion in my 1984. Finally got disgusted and put the stock one back in.

My radio went out for a few seconds, and the heater blew cold air when I went to the cemetary the other day.
That **** seriously freaked me out

 

Yeah, um, it just probably sounds like you guys/gals have problems in your wiring harness (or defective stereos). Look for shorts, poor ground connections, etc. Try swapping stereos with one of the same to eliminate the possibility of bad parts.

I'd say the installer of the stereo messed up.

88 gtu, ever since i fixed my clock (resoldered cold solder joints in idiotlight/clock module) it has not acted this way. the stereo turns off when it should and doesn't come on when it shouldn't.

myabe just a coincidence, but could fixing the clock/idiotlights fix my radio turning itelf on when the dash heated up?

If you jumpered the wrong leads accidentally when you were re-soldering the panel, and if the dome fuse is blown or removed you could have the problem you are describing.

 

Your car could be like the one in the Christine Movie (old school Stephen King Flick) If you really want to see if your car is possessed stand in front of it... Then say SHOW ME!!! if you car then starts up and starts revving... Then you have a bad *** FC no need for the exocist as nothing on the road should be able to touch you......
