Well...i can't realy say anything about your guys mass air flow meters. But i have alot to complain about mine!
My car for the last couple weeks was seeing around 60% air flow % according to my s-afc, on a nice cool day. Then for no reason at all...it started seeing anywhere from 56-53%. I thought it was weird, but figured that maybe one of my 6 ports had vibrated out of the open position within the motor. (I have them in the open position, and no rods to activate them.) So, thursday night, i tore the intake off to check it out. Was'nt the 6 ports...so checked the vdi...was'nt that either. Put it all back together again. Just for the heck of it, i turned on the ignition, to see what kind of full thorttle reading i would see according to the s-afc. I pushed the plunger all the way down on the afm..go and look at the s-afc...its only at 53%! I check it again with anouther aif flow meter..but this time it will only go to 51%! After a few spirtited runs, the best % i could obtain was 53%...the same number i got, when i pushed the plunger all the way open!
So...not only are bolth of my air flow meters peices of junk, but i'm maxing them out too. No wonder why i never felt any gains after removing all the 6 port activating rods, and stuff. The dang p.o.s. of a air flow meter was maxing out.
But what realy bothers me...is why it sometimes decides to read 60%, and other times 53%....all the while the butt dyno can't tell a difference.
Also, what does that little screw underneath the little cap do? Is it just for calibration?
Keep in mind, I'm having problems with a 89-91 style.
Does anyone have a 89-91 Mazda 929? Its suppose to have the largest maf that Mazda ever made. Perhaps it could be swapped?
