Talking MY Inventory of weight reduction

When I saw 88IntegraLS's thread about his inventory of weight reduction, it inspired me. I didn't go to the extents of him on some things, but this is what I came up with. Anything I didn't use, find necessary, or no longer worked/functional I removed. I'm not done yet, I still have some more things I'd like to do, but this is what I have so far. Tonight I went through everything and seperated it into bags and then weighed them individually. However, I've heard claims of AC/PS weighing up to 80-100 pounds by some forum members, and only found my AC/PS to total 50.2 pounds. I removed everything that the FSM says is related to the two, so I'm not sure if I missed something or what. I am not counting the PS fluid, though, since I drained that out when I removed it, but that doesn't account for 30+ pounds Anyways, here's the list with the weight of each thing. Let me know what you think and if anyone else out there has more ideas on what can be removed. Also, everything HAS and will be saved for reinstallation if/when I sell the car.

My future plans are a CF hood, lightweight battery, remove tar, and remove the antenna (I hate the radio and never listen to it anyways).

AC and AC/PS Mounting Bracket = 33.8
PS = 16.4
Spare Tire/Jack/Etc. = 33.0
Lighter Seats = 10.0
Hatch Belts/Bolts = 1.0
Front/Rear Washer Bottles/Bolts/Brackets = 3.2
AAS Control Unit = 1.2
Air Pump Silencer/Tubing = 2.4
Charcoal Canister = 2.0
Cruise Control Actuator/Control Unit = 3.0
Front Tow Hooks/Bolts = 2.6
Rear Mat = 9.6
MOP/Lines/Parts = 1.0
Misc. Bolts/Brackets/Etc = 1.8
------------------------------------------------------------------
Total = 121

121 is alot. That is almost a whole person. I notice a huge difference when there is another person in my car. If I didn't care how my car looked on the inside, or about the stereo, or about the AC, or...... I would do the same thing.

Nice removin'

Thx, yah it has been a noticeable difference. Seems to pick up and go a little bit quicker (not a huge difference, but a slight one) and the cornering improvement is definitely noticeable. I'll never remove my carpet/panels and crap like that, I want my car to at least LOOK normal, even though things are removed. Hopefully with carpet still in but tar removed the sound difference wont be too bad... and i would never take out my stereo, all i need is my mp3 player and speakers

Removing your jack, spare and tow hooks because you "never used" them is totally illogical, particularly for a paltry 35lb. Let us know when you get a flat or need to be towed, so we can all have a laugh at you...

go with a can of fix-a-flat. the stuff works great. the only reason i have my spare in now is because i already have fix-a-flat in one tire.

see nz. all those things you always say "thats only a fraction of a percent of the cars wight, it doesnt matter" can realy add up.

Ya I don't think I'd ever remove my spare on my DD, I've had to put it on a few times. I did remove my tow-hooks, and got towed just fine by a tow-truck even though he wasn't too happy without the hooks.

And even if fix-a-flat works, your tire will still need air in it to drive on...

Hehe...I wouldnt have said it so..."meanly" , but I totally agree with NZ. Now, I am doing some weight reduction also...removing A/C, PS, etc.. but removing your spare is just asking for trouble. A can of fix-a-flat isnt going to do **** of your tire has a rip in it (which in all the times Ive got a flat tire..it has) Was this a black steel spare, or an Enkei aluminum one?, because I noticed my Enkei spare is about 1/2 the weight of the steel one that was in my GXL. You might want to look into that. Id rather have an extra ~30lbs in my car, along with a big piece on mind that Im not going to be stranded..

once again no problem with the tow hooks. I only took off the front where my car is almost too low to even be towed from there... i still have the rears which will get me up onto a flatbed no problem, if it is ever needed of course

oh noes.. he got that spare tire weight from my TII spare. So I guess maybe estimate 50lbs for the n/a spare?

My enkei 4-lug spare weighs only 10lbs, but thats without the tire on it. Definately lighter than the steel one I have now for the 5-lugs.

I never said they didn't add up, I said some things are really dumb to remove. Some of the things on that list are simply redundant and should be removed. Replacing the stock seats with lighter ones is a good idea. Removing things that prevent you being stranded on the side of the road is nuts.

I'd trust a spare long before I trusted a can of foam, AAA can't change your flat tire if you have no spare, and many towies won't risk damaging the car by towing by anything other than the proper hooks. I just don't see this being worth 35lb, that's all...

Like i said, i still have the rear tow hooks, they can easily get me up on the flatbed with those... i only removed the front ones because my car is low and if they tried to town me from the front i'd probably scrape against the bed while going up

And AAA can tow you if you have a flat but no spare, like i said, they towed my moms porsche with 2 torn to **** tires no problem

true. most of my driving is done within a few miles of where i live and within a city so if i get a flat its no big deal. (i can hop a bus home or roll it a few blocks to the nearest tire shop). now doing a long distance highway trip without a spare is nutz.

i've left my front tow hooks on because its the only good place i can find to put jackstands. i mean where else do you put them on that side of the car?

i still need to go on a campaign and remove all the junk under the dash i dont need and some ods and ends stuff in the rear hatch area (dont use the straps, rear squirter is broke)
