My infini, and some questions

Hey everyone,

I'm a noob to this forum but i've used others so don't flame me.

Now, I'm importing this car, but there are some things I'm scared about, like it's not a real infini, it's a 1989 build date April, Series 5 FC3S, now, first thing that i'm scared of is that the wheels might not be the infini model wheels, second is that the Build date is out of the infini range, but, as I searched this forum, there's so many conflicting ideas i don't know what to believe.

Here are my pics:

Yes, I know she's got a busted front bar, also needs a little paint work, She's an Infini III, Also i'm refitting the pop up lights back on

I think that's it, can someone help, um, give me definite info on infinis so I can know the truth?

She's also got P windows, P steering, P mirrors, air con, etc etc, are those wheels GT-X stock ones? Or infini III stock ones?

does it have a stereo?

It doesnt really check out as one to me.
They were a different color, and I don't think they had any power options.
check the FAQ at the top of the forum

It's not stock, and no, not that I know of, she's had oil temp, boost, etc all guages fitted, as well as a fibreglass hood.
So, no, no stereo

So it's correct they didn't have any power options? As when I read that I was like pff, because they also wrote, no power steering, which was just stupid.

And they came in White, Grey, Black, Red and Blue, I know that for a fact.

I thought they only came in that infini blue green color. And I remember that infini's didnt have a stereo stock, and I believe it was the same for power options.

Well, there's two guys in Aus that have Series 4/5 infinis, with all power options, in black and white, no stereo though.

And yes they're genuine as they have the passenger rest plate.

The car in the pictures does not look like an Infini, it has base model steel wheels.

Now I suppose, they could have swapped the wheels, and removed the stickers, but I can not see the seats to tell you for sure if it is an Infini. I also thought that the Infini I-III only were available in Black or White.

Now for the other posters in this thread that are confusing this car with an Infini IV... they need to remember that Mazda had 4 different Infini models, through the FC production, but only the Infini IV (4) had the Green/black paint, and BBS wheels.

The Infini I was NOT an RX-7. It was a turbo 323 front drive.

The Infini II was a Series 4 RX-7. It had the aluminum hood, 2 USA spec seats, no radio, a Momo wheel and **** and the forged 6.5*15" BBS wheels that we got on the convertible. It was available as either manual or automatic. Only 600 were made in either white or black for 87 and 88. There were minor differences between 87 and 88.

For 89 (Series 5) , the Infini III was introduced with a Torsen LSD, the 7*16" BBS wheels, stiffer bushings and dampers, a strut tower bar, a larger master cylinder, new seats and knee pads and a new Momo wheel. Only 600 were made.

In mid 90, the Infini IV was introduced. It was largely similar to the Infini III but had adjustments to the suspension and braking plus Recaro seats. Only 900 were made.

The red car in the photos does not appear to be an Infini III, but rather a base GT-X because of the steel wheels.

Yikes, as usual, misinformation abound. More information on the car would be best, but from what I can immediately tell, this is not an infini. Tell tale signs include the color, missing sideskirts(?), and the wheels. I think we're looking at a GT-X here. Best ways to check if it was an infini would be to see if it has an adjustable steering column, the manufacturers sticker on the inside door(for rim size), and the passenger footbrace. Unlikely any of these have been removed or changed.

To address some misinformation:

-According to Mazda's own history on their website, the Original Infini I and II were available in black and white, the Infini III was available ONLY in shade green, and the Infini IV was available in either shade green or black. This is from MAZDA's website and has been confirmed by both of the Infini owners that I've had the opportunity to chat with from Japan.

-I know "for a fact" that the BBS wheels were standard on the Infini III, and have seen numerous pictures of Infini IIs and Is, all with BBS rims. This is from the Mazda's Infini III propaganda pamphlet(all in Japanese) that was issued in 89-90 prior to the Infini III's release.

-The infini I WAS an RX-7, this again, according to Mazda's history on their Japanese website, the Color Sportscar History book is wrong.

-The Infini III had a VLSD, the torsen was a new feature only available on the Infini IV.

-All infinis have recaro designed bucket seats adjustable for rake, the only difference being that the Infini IV's seats were also adjustable for tilt.

Hope this helps to clear some things up. All of this information is from an actual Mazda Japan source, as noted.

I can't post my pamphlet(working on a pdf translation, but it's slow going), but I can post the japanese mazda site where I'm getting this information from:
http://www.mazda.co.jp/history/rx7/N...chr_index.html
Happy translating!

It occurred to me I might have this backwards. I need to check it when I get home, so don't take it as gospel yet.

and here's another translation from another guy, many thanks to him

Bride seat; -- steering!!; turbo timer; boost gauge (?); water temperature gauge; oil pressure gauge; non-maker gearshift; 5-point rollbar; "shakou--"; FRP bonnet.

Air cleaner; blow off; front inter-cooler; * many non-standard features, so please check the car in person *; studless (tires); extent of modifications unknown; steering wheel "off"; AC panel for additional meter; T floor, right corner tear; battery "kakou toritsuke"; broken front bumper (large), partly missing; audioless; air support "setsudan kakou"; first member dented; right front frame "mimi magari"; engine oil dirty "mawari oto".

and that's about it. can't make out the last bits and pieces. The bit next to kagi (key) says "sejou" which I think means "locking". i suppose it means that the locks work.

I also think it's an ex racing car, but, what are those rims off I know they're off a standard car? I really hope mine has an LSD, though if it's as modded as it says i think it would.

Yeah, that's backwards: Infini III = Brilliant Black only, Infini IV = Brilliant Black or Shade Green. The first way I had it was how it was originally described to me, but upon consulting Mazda's website, I found the above to be true. Sorry!
