My Grand OS moment of the day

Well I pooped myself on the way to work: allow me to explain.

I'm driving along all happy Cruising with another 7 (nice red one, hi BTW)

Now we're in reasonably heavy traffic and as I recall and there is alot of down shifting and up shifting, and so on.

All of the sudden (can't be possitive it was comming off the clutch, or what gear I was in going into) All power goes away.

I'm driving around 20MPH and there is nothing... car doesn't seem to rev, but I can keep it running and going at about 20MPH not much more. Freaking me out Naturaly I'm assuming Blown Apex seal (although I checked compression not 2 months ago and it was sollid)

So I limp through the traffic and turn at the next turn, idiot lights flash at me once or twice and it feels like she wants to stall real bad...

Then it all goes away. Everyhting comes back, all power response everything exactly as it was. It's as if this little momment of crap had never happened!

So now I'm less inclined to think Apex seal... what I am kinda wondering is could it be that when I down-shifted it didn't disengage from fifth and stayed there... making me sluggish at 20 mph and near stall line... or it could be a vacume/power leak.

Any thoughts out there?

sounds like either electrical or a vac leak, although electrical problems are more random like the situation you described. i would start checking around the coil pack area and make sure you getting full voltage throught the enine bay (batt at 12.5 off and 13ish? at idle) check you fuses too. just start poking around in there. i doubt it would be stuck in 5th unless you left it there or have had shifter problems

Can you give us some info on your car?
Year, any mods? I'm betting electrical as well. If it's S5 it might be the OMP dying.

No real mods. K&N stock filter, and a stupid 2.5 cat back that I'm looking forward to getting rid of.

Replaced all Plugs and Plug wires about 1000 miles ago.

The only odd thing is the Idle.

I've never gotten it to idle correct. If I start it out of gear, it hops up to 3k as it should, stays for a few seconds, drops down to 1500, and will flux between there and 1100. then on occasion it will drop down to 700rpm or so and stay idling there. I don't want to adjust the TPS because if I adjust it from it's 1100 to a standard 750 then in that odd time when it drops it will be too low and die.

I'm thinking these may be related...

Well, since it's a S4 then it's not going into limp mode because of the OMP.
Could be grounds or tps or ECU...anyone know what will through the S4's into limp mode?

As I just learned last week - dirty contacts & wear inside the AFM could do it.

Time to blink the codes..

Thanks for the thoughts.

I'm going to build a DCC checker and get the codes off the ECU... hopefully that'll get me the info on why it's pooing out!

Hoping that this is all one Foul problem and I can fix both the Limp and the Idle in one fell swoop!

Regardless going over all the electronics can't be a bad thing!

Yea, I can't believe after all the trouble I went through to reground, swap injectors, install new filter and pump, and all that other crap... It was just a bad AFM. I hate AFM's. passionately hate them.

Edit: Oh yea, to make it useful... my AFM was causing a nasty fuel cut after being beaten to hell by NJ roads >=(

So I pulled the codes on the ECU...

Nothing, no errors, nothing. Did it Cold/Hot and running... nothing.

Should I still pull the AFM out and clean it up... figure it can't hurt.

Any other thoughts from the Great Gawds of all things Rotor?
