My frist 7

Hello everyone I am new here, this is my first 7, I just bought it about a week ago, Put new spark plugs in it and new wires, still has a rough idle and irratic sometimes though can't figure it out, still learning about rotories. I paid $1250 for it, has 127k on it and a new clutch, new oil cooler, brand new kumho tires, new master cylinder new brake rotors and a few other things. I also believe the ports are not opening up the 5th and 6th ports because after 3800 rpms there is no pull no good acceleration, also this is a N/A. I owned a 1988 Toyota Celica All-Trac before this, so this is a bit different lol.

Any Advice would be helpful and any help with my rough and irratic idle would be helpful as well. I used the search button and read about the TPS sensor but to be honest I didn't see it on my car I may be just overlooking it lol. Also which wire on the ecu do i tap into for the a/f gauge.

Well from the looks of your second to last pic there are 2 things I would suggest. A filter on that intake, debris getting sucked in there is not a good thing. And you need a shroud for that fan, its not gonna do a very good cooling job without it. Neither of these should affect your power loss/stumbling at 3800rpm that is often caused by a bad ground. Check your grounds.

trust me find a shroud, no shroud=air just being pushed outward instead of accually doing what its suppost to do. There is an article in the archives about grounding everything.

get some real paint on that thing before the primer locks in the moisture and rusts the car from the inside out

is that black primer on your car? if so... then my car looks just like yours lol. Except mine has red interior, no radio and stuff around radio, no center console, loose dash, yeah. Excellent engine though, the tranny is okay, and it needs new diff mounts, and probably a driveshaft. $601 bucks got me the car, outbidded the other guy by a buck.

What kind of exhaust is on your car? Are the cats still there? is there a hose going from the cats to the engine? If not that could be the source of your 3800rpm wall. if there are no cats, that will cause the 3800rpm wall. If that all checks out okay, then take your hand and try and rotate the 5th and 6th ports, they should rotate fairly easily. If not then work em back and fourth till they do work nice. If that fails, then check the grounds.

As far as the 3800 stutter goes, its been covered before. Try a search.

But it might be a crappy ground, or your secondaries aren't coming on. Until you research, don't push it. No fuel = teh lose.
