My friend's car runs hot!

Hi! My friend brought a 86 rx7 na a few months ago. The friend's car's temp gauge is always in the middle. We change the themostate, radiator cap, most hose (top, bottom, radiator hose, heater hose), flush the cooling system two times, added redline water weter. The reason i think his car is running hot is because when i open the hood, the whole engine bay is really hot. Much hotter than my 86 rx7 na. He is not loosing coolent, and no white smoke is coming out of the exhast. ANy one have any clue what is wrong with the car?

Isn't that where it should be? Mine is pretty much right in the middle too.

my needle has always sat at halfway. what else makes you think there's something wrong with the car besides the temp needle and engine bay being hot, does it run o.k ?

are all the under and over covers for the engine/body in place?

I would also check the fan.

And if the temp gauge is not showing any more than middle then it probably is not running hot.

WOW thank for all the quick replys.... OH yeah i forgot to metion that i did change the fan on his car. HIs old fan was just free wheeling. But even after changing the fan the needle still sits in the middle. And i even put my 7's fan on my friend's car and the needle still goes back to the middle. So my question is that is it normal for some 7s to have their temp gauge read half way? Again thanks for the replys! And yeah all the panals and stuff is in place.

Yes, some 7's run halfway; although, usually S4's run closer to 1/4. Mine runs @ 1/2 after a new radiator install... go figure He should keep a close watch on the temp gauge, incase it climbs beyond 1/2.

If it is always at halfway, thats not that bad. Generally supposed to be 1/4 to 1/2. Nothing more though.

If it seems to be a problem then replace the radiator, change out the water pump, make sure all that is in top shape.

We did put a mazda themostate in. But we forgot to line up the little mark on the thermostate with the mark on the thermostate housing. Will that effect any thing? Also how would i check the operation of the radiator or the water pump? THank you!
