Red face My FC only starts when it feels like it

Okay guys I got this FC and it ran great for 3weeks and now it acts like the battery is dead. I have replaced the battery 3 times! Replace alternator, still it does what is wants when it wants. Oh and I also checked the engine ground.... anyone have any ideas?

check the battery voltage when off and when idle, check the spark plugs and wires. How many miles does it have? Does it do it when cold or hot? Does it do it when the weather is cold or hot? That's all I can think off.

Yeh, we're going to need lots more info- exactly what it's doing (cranks but doesn't start, etc), when it's doing it (only on a full moon, etc), and what you've done to the car lately. Everything. Be specific...

I bet you have a ton of little problems that are contributing to your dilema. How good a shape is the car in? You might have more work in store for you than you think. The ol FC can be your worst enemy, or some times your best friend.

okay guys sorry forgot to mention that it push starts fine. i hav eonly had this car for about 1month. the night i got it i changed everything, spark plugs, air filter, oil filter, oil, made sure all fluids were proper amounts and it ran great. its orginal motor, 176k miles, N/A, stick shift if that helps any. it started this as a really random thing, i was driving it, stoped for ice cream maybe was in there for 30min came back out and it wouldn't run. we had to push start it, and every since then it only starts 2/10 times. like i said i got a new battery 3 times, replaced alterntor, and checked engine grund wire. my fiance Matt ( GodzillaT-78 ) has a thread for this too. I got more responses :P. But he is good on FD thats what he knows best and we just don't know whats going on here.

thanks for any help,
Sonja

100 or 1000 rpms. So, it push starts fine. Does the engine turn when you try to start it with the key.

It could be anything from a bad starter to a loose ECU pin...

Reman starters are about $170 at Mazdaformance...

Probably get a "rebuilt" one for cheaper...

Just gonna have to start troubleshooting, looking at every electrical plug, vac line, grounds, etc...if a new starter doesn't fix it...

I thoght you had a typo in the 100rmp post. I think they are like 60 bucks at kragan. You can try and smack the starter with a rubber malet or hammer, as it sound like the starter's selonoid is goofed up. You would stil need a new one.

I agree with the starter solenoid going out. Its a pretty obvious problem when it clicks once and doesn't start turning over.

The 100 rpm thing is a whole 'nother ballgame...Start off by checking everything idle related, and perhaps adjusting it, using the steps given in the FSM, or by searching the 37,572 threads we have here on idle issues...

Hang on there. Have you checked all of the wiring to your starter solenoid and everything? My s4 na was doing exactly the same thing and last night I nailed it down as a bad connection between the wire and pin coming from the top starter bolt. I think its the solenoid power supply. Give everything a nice cleaning and sand all your connections. If its still bad, then replace the starter.
