My FC Friends...PLEASE HIT ME!!!
As some of you may know, I have popped the engine in my 91 N/A. So I thought I would stick to N/A in my next car. Then, I decided to get a loan and get a TII. Now after crunching some figures, I found that by this time next year, I can easily afford a nice FD. SOMEONE STOP ME FROM GOING 3RD GEN!! I am scaring the crap out of myself!! The die hard N/A fan wants to go turbo (hell freezes over), and now he wants 2 of the damn things (Satan builds a snowman).

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
The FD is a beautiful car, even today, 10 years later.
But much smaller feeling inside. And there is questions about the reliability and quality of them (particularly the 93), much more than a FC.
And few professionals know how to work on them...
But still not worth the money IMO.
A great sports car, but not a great sports car bargin like a FC.

I rode in a modded FD once. Personally, I think they are cramped inside as well. And I think it is a girly lookin car. I just enjoy the stigma that goes with it. I am tired of saying "No, I have the older RX-7, not the one in TF&TF. Yes, a TII can be bought for cheap (I have found 2 S5 TIIs in my price range) and they are still bloody fast. Thank you Mark, you always seem to help ol Rico out!!

Dont get me wrong fd's are sweet but the $$$ comes into play in a big way with one of those! So unless you got alot of cash stay with the fc

Good call. Just cuz I can buy the car, dosen't mean I can mod it. One day I would enjoy a 20B FD, but right now, I think goin 1 turbo is sacreligious enough
phinsin88.....I should beat you for that

Either TII or FD, both are good choices. I had to make the same choice myself. I had enough to put money down on an FD or fully pay for a TII with cash and not have any payments. I chose to stay away from payments so I could just focus on putting my funds into upgrading my TII. If I had gotten the FD I might be on my way to getting an intake by now, lol. With my FC I have spent like $1500 already. I plan to be faster than an FD within 2 months and only spend around $2000+$1400(car)=$3400 or so. Thats how much my down payment would have been, lol.

Well, I can buy the TII outright hopefully in the next few weeks/months or a FD can be bought outright in about 6-8 months, year max. So payments are not a worry. I agree, a FD is too much worry. A TII would be just fine. Plus, all the $$$ saved could make a FC just as fast. BTW, how much hp can $5000 get you?

Aren't ready? Oh, I am quite able to be "ready". (what do you mean by ready anyway?) I am an die hard n/a guy, so I think 1 turbo will be enough for me to learn about. I can learn it, I just think that the FC would be a better idea. I just had a momentary brain fart.

Get a tII and mod the **** out of it. Lots of parts available and not as costly. Just slam a body kit on it and it will be just as sweet as any third gen. But if I could afford one I guess i would get it too.

FD? Are you kidding me? First off, what are you going to do when you break something on that? You can't afford to fix your FC, hell break pads alone on an FD will cost you more than you can afford. You are a sad sad person rico! However, I will gladly trade you my s5 GXLII for the FD you buy.

How in the world can a kid who's been booted out of the house and crashing at friends houses possibly be able to finance and MAINTAIN and FD in a year?
An FD is an awesome car, but usually comes with 2 payments: The Loan and the Mechanic.

If you have to ask, can I afford and FD, you can't plain and simple. If you have to take a loan out to buy an TII you definatly can't afford to keep gas and parts on an FD.

Mom and I got cool again. I am getting a loan for $9k (private student loan, no payments till I graduate, plus option to have it forgiven by gov't if I do Teach for America for 2 years after college). I am selling my car for $1600 cash. I get paid $7/hr right now, with no expeses. In the fall, I get paid $8.50/her w/ still no expenses. That is how in a year or so I could afford a FD. No need to finance a car if you pay it off in one fail swoop. No need to maintain a car with a rebuilt engine. I never asked "If" I can afford it, I was just seeing what people's opnions of the 2 cars were, and which they would go for. I "can" afford both.

umm i have a S5 TII and 93 Base. both are money pits. it is nice to have multiple turbo rx7's but it certainly takes a toll on your wallet. doing all the labor yourself will save tons of $$$$$. i learned that the hard way

i have a question for you all,
can an FC be made to handle as well as an FD, and what would you need to do it? I have read s4 are .86g and s5 are .89g (not sure what causes the difference) and the FD is like .98g.
-------
IMO, the FD left stock, maybe with a few relaibility mods would be best, the car was designed to put out 255hp unlike a suped T2 which was designed to put out 182-200hp. And if the FD has better handling than a moded FC, the FD is even better.
I don't have an FD, but wish I did and am saving my pennies by the day.
Who ever said the FD is girl like is crazy because the FD is one of the best looking cars ever made IMO. FC is nice looking but doesn't even come close even with a body kit. Look, ever the c5 corvettes copied the FD styling...
Also a stock FD has more resale value than a FC t2 with 10k dumped into it.

My ex-g/f said they look girly, while mine looked cool. The FD is too smooth and curvey. Hell, I am a fan of the R30 Skyline, and S10 Silvia. I am weird I know.

I think it would be a better investment for the FC than the FD. Why not think about a 10th AE? There are so many more possibilities with that than an FD. And as people have already said, money becomes much more of an issue with an FD vs. the FC.
Now if you come across a CYM for a decent price - well - you might have to rethink your position.
Dollar: I know the FD has the double-wishbone suspension.. much more robust than the FC.. that's the biggest reason they handle better...
