my exhaust idea

i was thinking since ill need a new exhaust soon, what about using a butterfly valve to cause backpressure to operate the 6pi. this way you could tune it so you get the most power, like have them open when it actually gain power, around 4500-5000 or whatever the dyno says the highest is. all you would need to do is install the valve and a mechanism that will hold it at the correct angle to restrict exhaust enough then put the pickup just upstream of the valve
I was just wondering if someone has tried this or if it would be a good idea or if you have any comments or ideas on the mechanism required, i was thinking just a bolt you tighten

Why not use the stock air pump to open the 6pi? Do a search and you'll find out how to rig it up.

my whole pass. side of the engine got a little toasty when it caught fire, and im trying to reduce rotating mass, however since i am the underbudgeted teen all i have gone is my a/c and air pump (i like p/s besides my arms are twigs) eventually i would like to get a flywheel and drive shaft, but ill be happy with a running car.

no one hardly ever gets a lightend driveline, thats kinda one of the very last things to get.....

the butterfly method you say sounds like a bad idea... for one extra back presure would result in a loss of low end compaired to a full exhaust setup... a better idea would be to leave the ehxaust full free flowing and use some kind of 12 volt air pump and a rpm switch or two solinoides and use air from the stock air pump to operate the 5th 6th port...

do you allready have a Racing beat header and full exhaust, that is a good system to get some very noticeable gains hp wise.

i was thinking of this so you would only have as much pressure as you need, not more, which could happen with a presilencer, also i am trying to rebuild my car for less than $1000 hopefully less, right now w/o new exhaust or other things not needed for it to drive its looking like <$800 so, i am looking for alternatives

i didn't have much luck with runnin my ports off the air pump either. my ACV kept stealing pressure from them and they would close. i'm runnin off backpressure and it's fine for a weekend car. the way to go as far as alternatives or a reliable high-performance solution in my opinion is as kompressor said with the air pump and rpm switch... haven't seen much to beat that that's cost effective.

i wouldn't put a butterfly valve in my exhaust for sure though, as unique as the idea is.

your trying to rebuild it, fix it, or mod it for 1k? because the only thing youll be able to really afford with that budget is just making it into a good daily thats reliable, it takes alot of money to make a beefy n/a

take a s5 solenoid, run the airpump, and rig it to a V-AFC.

So you are saying you want to restrict the exhaust and decrease power in order to open the 6 port system? That doesn't seem like a worthwhile tradeoff especially when the air pump uses so little power to turn that no one can feel if it is there or not.
