Is my clutch pedal b0rked?

Cool Is my clutch pedal b0rked?

So, I'm driving my car when the clutch pedal makes a weird popping noise when I depress it. Now it makes a small clicking sound every time I hit it. I got up under the dash and took some pictures. It looks like something broke... but, what? This little peice of white plastic goes through a hole in the clutch pedal. Here's the pedal resting...



And now, here's when I depress it, the small piece of plastic slips out of the pedal and that makes the clicking noise. The clutch still works but... well, just have a look for yourself:



Any and all help is appreciated.

There's supposed to be some kind of peice filling that hole, I just put a screw in place and haven't had any problems with it.

Yeah, there's supposed to be a plastic 'buffer' between the switch's rod and the pedal itself so that it doesn't wear out, just find a suitable replacement.

You're talking about the hole in the upper right of the picture, correct?

What would you suggest filling it with? Somebody said screw, but I don't wanna just stick something in there and hope it fixed the problem.

Go to Mazda and buy a new plug, it's cheap.

When I first got mine, it started clicking... I noticed the previous owner taped a penny up there to fix it and it fell off. I taped it back on and it lasted a month until I fixed it.

I went to the dealer and picked up a new plug for the clutch pedal, and one for the brake pedal. Be careful though, they look the same but are made from different materials.

I used to tape a dime there with some duct tape and then I considered JBWelding one up there but, I decided to just put a small bolt in the hole.

cruise control sensor... even goin to a parts store and getting a plastic carpet plug would do the trick. just make sure you get the right size. little trick. press your thumb really hard on the hole to leave an impression on your thumb, then go in the store and match up the plug size to the mark on thumb. i found for somethings, mazda is just a pain in the ***. maybe its the lazyass cdn way!

piece of rubber do?

thinkin of those little stick on rubber feet pads about the size of a pool cue tip ..should stick with a little glue..friendly to the switch..should stick on to the metal...riggin up a fix ..newfie style!!

Is it? My factory no-cruise car has it. I was thinking it was for something else. What else I don't know, since '86 model year cars don't need a clutch safety switch input to start.

It's either the clutch interlock switch (to prevent starting without pressing), or the cruise/ecu switch
