My Car Sucks!!

eh, actually its great. today i went on a long freeway trip and decided to put my ghetto lip back on and pop the rear of my hood up. i wasnt expecting much, but my car feel like it is really sucked down to the road. it used to feel really light and touchy on the fron at freeway speeds or higher. but now that the air can get out from under the hood, there is a dramatic difference.do not try this mod. it is potentially deadly.

I guess you want to be a Darwin award winner.

Please do not encourage other members to do something as lame as that, and potentially life ending.

Lifting the hood as you have done, in the rear, is asking for a death sentence.

See with the hood raised like that, the firewall and hood no longer match up and no longer prevent the hood from being shoved back through the windshield in the event of a front end accident.

^good point. i just did it for the drive today to make it easyer and noticed a differnce .I thot that the hood brackets (which the hood is still attatched to) kept it from coming back into the windshield. anyways, maybe you gais shouldnt try it.

ya know.. somehow i dont think the hood really even lines up too well with the firewall. it was my understanding that hoods were supposed to crumple anyways. ive had this mod for awhile. my car runs cooler, but everyone thinks the cars broken. maybe just add some ebay vents? which would be more ricey?

aerodyne.net sells the brackets to mount your hood in that fashion.

#1 The lower end of the rear of the hood, fits right next to the firewall when the hood is closed. There is a reason there is a lip on the hood and firewall there.

#2 With the rear of the hood too high (as shown in the pictures) the hood no longer mates up to the top of the firewall and instead of crumpling in half (like it is supposed too) it instead shears the thin hinges and the hood travels backwards through the windshield, decapitating the driver and passenger, as well as forcing glass into their bodies and faces. The hinges (BTW) are not designed to prevent the hood from traveling backwards. The hood design and fire wall are.

Again this is by far one of the most dangerous mods ever done, and only a complete idiot that does not care for his or her (as well as their passengers) life should do. This has been shown over and over to do exactly what I describe.

But then there are a lot of Darwin awards going out to people too stupid and suicidal... if your hood is mounted that way, you are both.

No, again the hinges are not designed to prevent the hood from traveling backwards. They are way way too thin. The only thing that is designed to prevent the hood from traveling backwards in a front end accident is the way the stock location hood meets up to the top of the fire wall.

Please don't suggest any others do this amazingly stuiped modification. I can just see some parent sueing you so that you and are family are broke for the next 50 years, because some kid was too stupied to know better and followed your suggestion.

And if you need the hood proped up for cooling you have a lot of other issues to fix first, like a new radiator or water pump.

Agreed with Icemark, but I just had to say, that 'lip' sure the hell does make it look like a ford probe. Ack!

I used that mod with hood pins(steel), and anextra bracket on the rear hinge mounting hole. I doubt the hood would do what you describe installed as such. I agree, just unbolting the rear bolt is a bad idea. FWIW that mod in conjunction with cuttingb the front bumper/bumper support yeilded ~a30+ degree reduction in oil, and water temps on my TO4S TII.
