Anyways, when the car is cold, it takes a while to start for some reason.. a lot of cranking and such. It kinda started doing this when it started getting hot outside..(i dont know why that would have anything to do with it) but it cranks over a lot.. then i have to stop cranking, then try again in a few seconds. Eventually it starts up and is fine.. And after its been running (warmed up) and i try to start it again, it starts up almost right away.
Is my engine going bad or something? This has me semi concerned.

check compression, how many miles on rebuild?

 

Wow, thats pretty odd. Usually its the other way around. The car is hard to start when hot.

 

Check your water thermo sensor out...

 

Thats not going to affect starting too much. When the thermo sensor is out, the ECU defaults to 60 degrees water temp (IIRC). Should not affect startup.

Have you scanned for codes yet?

 

Check the fuel pressure... Your RVP may be too low...Maybe you do not build enough pressure in the lines until you have been running the pump for a while during cranking..

 

I beg to differ, J-Rat, but when my wiring was shot on my sensor plug, one of the symptoms was long cranking to start her up...Especially cold....

I'm not the type of guy that gets on & tells somebody to check or change something that I've pulled out of my ***...Why the hell do you think I'm trying to teach people how to TROUBLESHOOT?

 

Hence why I said to pull codes. The S5 ECU stores codes, unlike the S4 ECU. So if it IS the thermosensor, I will learn something too. I just doubt that its the problem, but then again, I am not always right.

 

Have you noticed a drop in fuel mileage? Or do you notice a fuel smell comming from the exhaust? If so it could be the fuel injectors leaking.

 

i havent noticed a drop in fuel milage, about 10k on the rebuild, and it runs really strong with no smoke whatsoever, unless i severely flood it, then it smokes for about 3 seconds.
