Sweet smell indicates antifreeze, which indicates bad coolant rings, which means a rebuild How bad is the smoke? You might want to check the overflow container and see if it bubbles as the car is idling (indicating compression getting into your coolant) Sorry, but expect the worse

Almost for certain your coolant seals are gone, but thats generally an easy rebuild if you want to do it yourself. Only a couple hundred for a gasket kit and new coolant seals unless you have to replace a rusted rotor or housing.
