Exclamation My car likes to stall out...

Ok, this is regarding my 88 GXL that I've recently brought out of storage. Basically, the engine starts and runs decently (besides a TERRIBLE 3800 "brick wall") but if I hit the brakes and throw the clutch in, the car stalls. I know it's a vacuum leak somewhere, but where should I check first?

The engine also sometimes "barely" idles..it sits at 600 RPM for a few seconds before it decides to idle at 750 or so. However, if it's idling low and it stalls out (say I rev the engine and shut the throttle quick), I hear a "gasp" coming from the engine right before it stalls out. I know that I need to work the cobwebs from this engine (at least it sat in a stew of MMO for the 5 months it wasn't running), but if anyone could point me to the correct vac. system or line that works on the idle control system and brake booster (?) I will write you into my will.

BTW...is the 3800 symptom related to secondary injectors not firing or the 6 ports being stuck? Mine are frozen...looks like I'll be ******* with that tomorrow as well.

My 3800 hesitation was due to the secondary injector power plugs falling off, so I would start there...

Also believe it or not, your TPS adjustment may be part of your problem.

After you get done looking for vacuum leaks, checking your TPS, and making sure that your BAC is working properly... check your compression. As the motor wears out it doesn't want to idle as well....

My convertible was doing the same thing, it would stall every once in a while i was braking and puting the clutch in and after awhile it just stopped doing it so i forgot all about it until this thread. i was wondering what would cause my car to do this. should i check for a vaccum leak?
