Sounds like your TPS is getting stuck. This is what mine does when that happens

Mine too, it was the TPS -- a broken wire.

It's unfortunate that mazda chose to use such a cheaply made component for such an important operation, then decide that they should charge $300 for a replacement.

first test the tps to see if its any good. The haynes manual for you car will tell you how(the manual should have been you first mod). Learned that the hard way. If it is the tps try a local junk yard first, they have no idea how much to really charge for these parts. what type of tranny and how many miles

He's got a series 5, think about this. 10 minutes are fine, then all a sudden it falls on it's face and won't rev up anymore? Can we say classic symptoms of OMP limp mode? I bet you that your check engine light pops on when it does that too.

Before spending big bucks:
Spray some contact cleaner in the long range TPS barrel an work it in.
Home Depot has "QD contact cleaner" in the electrical section.
Radio Shack has some similar stuff.

That stuff is great for all kinds of old switches, buttons & ***** from the AC to the radio

junkyard again. I think a new S5 OMP is like 1k dollars.

start pre-mixing on top of the OMP to be safe.

The OMP is expensive but fairly reliable.
If the long range (upper) TPS gets dirty inside, the ECU will go to limp mode, because it needs that signal to run the OMP.
It's a simple fix - try it.
