Sounds like it might be going into limp mode. Do you get a check engine light?

I would check the functioning of the secondaries and the actuators.

you checked the spark plugs/ wires recently?

Limp mode is a sort of protective mode the ecu will go into if it senses something wrong w/ the car that could be detrimental.

I thought the limp mode function was only on the S5's. If his is an '87, that's an S4.

I had the same problem around 3700- 4000, the secondary were the problem; the connection to the injectors were loose. I have an 87...I got under the hood, I could hear the extra breathing- but no 'fire'... the tabs on the cables were 'crispy'. I had the engine do it around 2500 as well.

Yea the oil pressure is fine, but the primarys have been replaced allready, and i think it might need secondarys. I have a full cork sport exhuast system for it and i have a baffle, and i always ran it with out it. So one day i put the baffle in and it seems to run better, and hasnt really when in to "limp" mode. Does any one know were to get any s5 tail lights? : D
