my 7's air pump says "do not remove air pump" on it.....

what is up with that.. this one has been disconnected.. and i heard something about it unlocks some power...
so is it that you just canot remove the parts? and just take off the belts?

what exactly does the air pump for? its not for the intake is it?

You can remove it if you want. It pumps air down into the catalytic converter. Your cat will supposibly clog if you run the car long enough with out the air pump. Good reason to gut the cat

Remove the airpump and all airpump-related stuff, block off the holes on the block, get a straight pipe to replace the cat and you should free up about 15 hp. Now its time to think about getting a new clutch and pressure plate since the stock one cant handle more than 180 hp or so(ive got an N/A) Then offcause you also want a new exhaust and, and ...........Tuning is like an obsession if you first in to it, you want more.
I would probaly (if I was you) make it reliable first, then get more horseies.

Stock Clutch and Pressure Plate can't handle 180HP? That sounds about right...

Too bad the car is at least a decade old, and if stock, probably not even seeing 140HP anymore.

Leave the airpump on unless you are going full exhaust (no cats). You will not pass emissions without the pump.

Power gains are minimal from removing the pump alone...maybe 1 HP.

Yea, dont remove it till you have enough cash to replace your cats with a straight pipe.

If he has a s5, then the air pump activates his 6 ports correct? You'd loose more horsepower than you'd gain unless you planned on wiring them open or another method of getting them to work.

There is a sticky about opening your 5/6th ports in the top of this forum.

And whoever said it only frees up 1hp and probably 1ft/lb of torque, every little bit counts. Take off 5 things that all take 1hp/1tq and you have 5hp/5tq.

Instead of removing the air pump to gain that 1HP and dealing with the whole can or worms that opens, just remove the spare tire and gain the power in weight reduction.

When you exceed 180hp you don't spin the clutch, you over power the springs in the hub. (ask me how I know) But yeah, its not a good situation. I must've broken some of those little ******* or something because she's pretty damn loose feeling when spooling the clutch hub. Yeah, its bad enough that I can feel the damn thing take up the slack. Good thing I plan to replace it shortly. (sometime in the spring before I drive it again)
