My 2nd Free RX-7 - 88 GXL Auto
Well, I got another one for free, its a 1988 GXL Automatic.
The Story: When I got my TII a long time ago, my mailman saw us working on it and mentioned that he had an RX-7. Then a few weeks ago he saw us working on my friend's RX-7 and asked me if I wanted his for free because the tranny is shot. So I went and picked it up. The driver's side window was smashed out by some hooligans a few months ago for no reason, so it has been raining inside the car for a while, but it looks like it just needs new carpet and seats and a good clean, it's not as bad as my other one was. Then I'll swap a manual into it and fix the fenders and bumper, the rest of the body is straight. It looks like they took pretty good care of it otherwise, I think the tranny is the only major thing wrong with it.

That is the BEST!!!! No matter if ther are a lot of problems, free is free
I've pulled old VWsout of the woods for free. I pulled a porsche 914 out but I had to pay 200 for it
The best deal I got was a Ford courier for $50 BUT it had about $75 worth of college books in the tool box. I took them back to the bookstore.....
Still not a Rex for free though

Yea I feel like the mailman deserves something (not sex), especially because they had just put brand new tires on it before it broke down. He said he didn't want to buy it back, but maybe his son might want to when he gets back from UTI, cause I think the his son is the one that drove it most of the time.

nah thanks anyway, I definitely want to put a manual in it.
So I got it running today, it won't rev over 2500 though and it smokes pretty good. I'm pretty sure its burning tranny fluid, it doesn't smell like coolant. I put a bunch of pictures of the smoke on my page.

You mean I got it running
JK, we worked together The linkage from the shifter to the tranny had fallen out, so we connected both of them together and while I held the linkage while he shifted it back into park and bam it fired right up.
It is tranny fluid, trust me. There is a vac line that runs from the engine to the auto tranny that seems to be sucking in the fluid because the tranny is royally fucked. While he was taking pictures and the car was running I was looking around in the engine bay and saw that all the smoke was rising from the tranny area, then I looked in the disptick neck for the tranny fluid and there were bits of smoke coming out of it. So I looked under the car and tons of smoke was rising from the tranny and coming out of the exhaust at the same time.
Also, it's not coolant or oil. The smell was very bitter, not sweet like coolant and had no oil smell at all, plus it was pure white. It smelled the exact same as when he did the ATF trick on his TII.
