most muffler shops will not violate the federal law on removing emissions equipment.

Even though IceMark is right, that it's illegal to remove, a lot of little shops will do it for you. I had it done to my car for about 60 bucks, but my price included a piece of flexible muffler, about where the cats went. you could probably get that down a bit if you don't include that, but I liked the added flexibilty.

Here in NY we do have serious smog rules and I still got ti done without questions. the guy just told me "you know without this your not gonna be able to pass emissions" and I replied "I dont care please just do what im paying for". In all it cost me $200 to get a complete new set of pipes put on from my exhaust manifold back to my fake N1's, with a pre silenecer in place of the cat.

Here in MN it is exactly the opposite. We don't have any emissions testing and even the little shops won't do it.
