Question To much transmission fluid?

A while ago, I changed out the tranmission fluid in my tranmission to redline fluid. As instructed, I bought 3 quarts of it. Recently theres been a weird noise coming out of it or my clutch and some have suggested that it has somethign to do with the fluid. The haynes manual on my car says that it can hold 2.6 quarts. We had it jacked up in the front only so it was tilted back and we were able to fit all 3 quarts in there. So is it possible to have to much tranny fluid? And if so, is .4 quarts enough to cause damage?

Too much will leak somewhere.
Any leaks?

If the clutch gets oiled, it slips.
Is the clutch slipping?

If it still bothers you pull the filler with the car close to level.
Any overfill will run out the fill hole.

Please describe weird noise..

That's why you leave the fluid level check plug open when you are filling it up.

Take SureShot's advice, and drain a little out.

Turbos have a very specific method of filling the trans. It's in the FSM and should be followed. This should also be done with the car completely level, so if you can't jack the car up and support it level (four stands) then take it a place with a hoist and have them do it.

I haven't noticed any leaks, and the clutch doesn't slip. Its really hard to describe the noise, it hasn't been as bad recently, its like a rotating sqeaky noise, it does it in first, second, every gear even neutral.

Hummm, ok, my hanyes manual said something ot the effect of there are two fill holes and two drain holes in the tranny for this. My friend said that they didn't really matter, it all went to one chamber. So for the two drain holes, we picked the lowest one and for the two fill holes, we picked the highest one, so we only used 2 of the 4 plugs. I'm starting to worry that my friend was wrong..... it doesn't grind or anything, it kinda feel notchy, but its hard for me to compare. Its pretty much the only stick I've ever driven.

P.S. I don't know how NZConvertible knew but yes, it is a Turbo (if that makes any difference)

Same way I knew, we checked your profile. 1987 TII... In the future, please post that information to save us some time

The N/A had one drain plug and one fill plug, which also served as the check plug.

The TII had two drain plugs, one fill plug, and one check plug. You are to fill the at the fill plug until it starts coming out the check plug.

The procedure can be found in the FSM, found here:
www.iluvmyrx7.com

All that you will need to do is get under the car while it is jacked up and level, and remove the check plug and let any fluid pour out.

I am able to read the minds of RX-7 owners thousands miles away!

Plus I checked your profile just to be sure.

Yes it makes a difference. As you can see from the pic from the FSM above the procedure is quite different.
