Motor Swap Help
Ok guys im about to drop in a streetport motor in my Fc. My old motor is still good and it has 174,000 miles on it and im going to BP that motor.
But back to the question?
Ok this will be my first motor pull and drop in. I think its better if i pull the motor an tranny that way i can bolt my tranny to the new motor out side of the car cues i dont have the clutch aliment tool. And is there anything i might want to do that the motor is out and is there anything that i might want to make sure i do before and after installing it (I know the basic like fluid's). im going to keep my p/s and a/c. im going to install a RB header while im at it and some block off plates. Maybe pineapple 5th and 6th port selves.
Anything else i should do or make sure i should do?
Thanks You Guys

He said "remove the fan off the water pump" not remove the water pump... You don't want to put the fan through the A/C condenser.
As for pulling the engine and tranny? It's a personal preference. Some ppl like pulling the trans, others don't like the extra work. You won't know which you like better unitl you've tried both.
The clutch alignment tool is not needed if you trust your eyeball. Usually I skip the tool because I can do a better job with my eye and a machinist ruler. Rule of thumb for aligning the clutch is make sure it is 100% dead center. The closer to center the clutch is aligned, the easier it will slide onto the input shaft. People that struggle with clutch jobs are the ones that didn't take their time aligning the clutch.
Oh, plan on changing at least one motor mount...

roland, i think i got a spare alignment tool you could have. when i pulled the tranny and motor out at the same time, the radiator was out. i'd do both if i were you, but they're right, it's all about what you feel is better.

First off the clutch tool is realy realy cheap. I think they sell it for like $10-15 at most parts stores... I dont use one either... just stick in a socket extention into the pilot bearing stick the clutch and pressureplate on alighn then tighten. As for the motor+tranny pull, its too much un needed work. A motor pull is very str8 forward... nothing complicated, especialy removing it, it just pops right off. Install is a different story but you'll figure it out...

I just did mine-left transmission in-had a little problem indexing engine/trans but I did it myself and I'm 64. If you pull the transmission it's recommended that you change the rear trans seal

ok when it comes down to mating the engine with tranny, the easiest thing to do is, when you are positive the input shaft is right in the hole, hold the engine and with a ratchet turn the motor by the main pulley, its a size 19 IIRC...

Very good advice. The engine should literally side right into the transmission if you alignged the clutch plate and you turn the engine back and forth light suggested above.
