I've never used this shop specifically but have heard good things. Easy Automotive in San Rafael 145 Jordan street. This is a VERY old referal.
Rotary Performance in Pleasanton is a good mechanic but I'm not to happy with his help. He's the one that if you ask questions he just answers with bring it in, I'll check it out.
It's been a long time since I've been to a shop in Concord. Mostly mazda, not sure if he is still there. I rate him 1-10 a 7 but that's been a couple of years back.
Mazdatrix in LA I know is not the bay area but are number one on my list. They are extremely helpful and know their s%$@.
I do sugest doing the swap yourself!

4 to 5 hours? Your kidding right.. takes more then 5 hours to swap a motor and drivetrain.. at least two days if you work all day.. that is if you do it yourself ofcourse.. if you have tons of help it will go quicker.. but more then 5 hours.
If you have the time, space and knowledge, do it yourself.. it will be tons of fun and you'll feel so good about what you acomplished when you fire her up for the first time.
