Motor Oil?

What is the absolute best motor oil for a Turbo2 RX-7 '88. I was suggested Royal Purple, but others have told me other things. Mobil 1 and Redline have also been suggested, but I want to know what is THE best? The most lubrication and the most performance?

I would have to say Royal Purple, but Mobil 1 and Redline are very good top of the line products as well, not sure about which one might be better for the Rotary Engines specifically. Castro GTX 10w-40 works for me, been using it forever and have had no problems with it at all.

Then there is the question of synthetic and non-synthetic and which works better for the Rotary Engines as well.

You can't really label a 'best'. Alot of people have difference preferences. All those brands you listen are high end and good. Idemitsu makes a racing oil that is like $7.50 a quart (www.rx7.com) and Mazdaspeed also have a rotary oil that is extremely expensive http://corksport.com/store/category/...al_engine.html

If your using the stock OMP then it does matter between synthetic and non-synthetic. But if you use a high end synthetic like royal purple, mobil 1, redline then you'll be fine. the cheaper synthetics have problems lubricating the housings and seals in rotaries. Also, lower end synthetics burn differently which can cause unwanted build up in the engine. But if your using pre-mix this is all a moot point.

I would go with the most readily available, someone on the board posted that he drove 45 minutes to pick up royal purple oil. I wouldn't count that as readily available.

O ok I see the build up from cheap synthetics. What happens to the OMP when running snythetic?
Like I said Castrol GTX works really well for me, plus u can get it for relatively cheap (weekend Pepboys sales). I guess soemthing to look at just as importantly is the brand of Oil Filter your running because some might not have the check valve that I hear is pretty important, though i don't really know which brands carry that check valve and which don't.

The omp would flow water if you put in there. The problem with synthetics is that cheap ones won't lubricate the engine properly and leave behind residue after being burned. I personally use Royal Purple because I can get it easily at pep boys.

Royal Purple is THE best. It has proven horsepower gains with just an oil change. There are videos of dynoes on their site. Do some searching and you will find that modern synthetics are fine to run in rotaries. There have been advances in most synthetic oils so they are safe to run. There are a few threads with great information.

Do they have videos of dynos with any rotaries or just normal piston engines?

Damn, what PepBoys do you go to? The one by my house doesn't carry it.

I wish I had known that earlier or I would have used it.

thanks, that was pretty cool. Maybe I should E-mail them and ask if they want to dyno an 88 TII to add to their vid collection.

I don't know if it's just me, but I've noticed that 20w50 royal purple felt better than the 10w40.

thats part of marketing. I have also seen videos of the tornado on a dyno giving power gains.

not saying synthetic doesn't help out with power or mileage but to claim it is the best just from seeing a video on their own website?

Theres no reason to use 10x40, just use 10x30. Or better yet follow the viscosity guideline in the haynes/fs manual.

Congratulations.
You've now spend 3 to 5 times more versus regular mineral oil.
You now have one extra horsepower.

Can you use that one extra horsepower?
Can you actually feel one extra horsepower?

I would definatly go with Royal Purple because they say that it works well on rotaries on their FAQs site.

obessions aside, any good dino (check www.bobistheoilguy.com ) will suffice, remember sevens eat oil, so go with a good dino and change often.

i use M1 EP in the wifey's accord, cuz I am lazy and want a super long OCI, like 10k miles,

FYI: read somewhere porsche recomm OCI is 20K??

put some redline/royal pain in the diffy or the tranny
