Motor oil

I am sure this question has been asked before but what the hell...

Do you guys run synthetic oil? Are there any draw backs?

And does anyone use the Royal Purple motor oil, that Racing Beat sales? If so, is it as good as they claim?

How long can you go between changes while running synthetic? (I will probally change at 2000 to 2500 with this car because I am gonna run the **** out of it)

Just curious to get the info and your point of views on Synthetic oil.

Thanks

I run synthetics, BUT:
I am ****-retentive about crap like that
I did not install an OMP system on my new motor
I run premix
I have a new tight motor
I change every 2K miles.

As for your particular situation:
S4 or S5?
Running OMP?
If yes to OMP run DINO OIL.
Synthetic Lubricating Oils don't burn clean
If you have an older motor you will have a fuel dilution issue.

Banzai...you beat me to it...That's exactly what I would have wrote, but I HAVE OMP.

Okay, You guys know I am not very good at this tech stuff. I am not a mechanic and don't know crap about rx7's. (But I learn quickly, with a little help)

OMP? Define this for me. Some type of back up oil pump? Or does it shoot the oil into the intake?

The engines at this present time have not been modified other than minor. Both of our cars are s4's. My side kicks is an 86 and mine is an 87, both N/A.

OMP: Oil Metering Pump

Look it up in the FSM or go to RETED's page and read about PREMIX.

Only in the transmission and differential where it makes a huge difference in performance and it is actually worth the extra money.

Mazda recommends against using synthetic oil in the engine, and it voids the warranty (not as if your warranty is long gone by now, LOL). The reason is becuase not all synthetic oils are made the same, and some do not burn properly in the engine causing striations on the rotor housings. Many race teams run synthetic oil in the engine (including premix) with no problems.

I don't use it, but I would imagine it is fine if Racing Beat sells it. I just don't think it is worth the money unless you are at the race track.

Castrol GTX 20w50 and a 3,000 mi oil change has worked fine for me on street/autocross RX-7's for over 14 years now in the Florida temperature range. If you are really giving your car a pounding (ITS, GT, or other racing) then you should probably change the oil before each race.
