Motor Mount Dimple

You know those dimples on motor mounts (see pictures), which way are they oriented in the motor mount slots? In other words, do the dimples go toward the bottom motor mount slot, or do the rest in the slot on the upward side? Its for a 90 vert. Thanks

I wouldn't worry about that too much.

I want to say towards the outside but I really can't remember with any certainty.. Best bet is when you're installing the engine to set the mounts on the subframe, get the engine roughly in place [say.. over the studs and bolted to the trans] and then it should be clear.

CA Engine mount dimple alignment

The mounting holes on the sub-frame are slotted. In principle, the dimple should be in the slot. There is a smear of white paint on the outside of the mount so you can align it. I think they end up on the bottom toward the center of the car.

I'm putting new mounts on my '88 vert tomorrow. Will snap a couple of pics & post 'em some time tomorrow.

In reality, though, sharigan probably is right that it doesn't really matter. The mounting studs are in the center of the rubber. The dimple will flatten out if it isn't in the slot. On the other hand, there could be some metal embedded in the rubber that works better when the dimple is in the slot.

Cheers!

CA Dimples matter

The dimple should be at the bottom of the slot...toward the center of the engine. The dimple is steel, not rubber. If it is not in the slot, the bracket will not be flush against the mount. If the dimple is at the top, the mounting stud of the mount will not be in the center of the boss on the bracket. And, the weight of the engine is pressing downward on the dimple rather than on the stud.

See attachments showing the right side mounting bracket. The left side bracket does not have a boss, but the same principle applies. If the dimple is at the top, the stud will not be in the center of the bracket and the weight is on the dimple...not the stud.

Cheers.

Wow, those dimples are larger than they appear in the original pic. My mounts certainly didn't/don't have those....

This is really helpful - Thanks for the info. Dimples will be towards the bottom.

My pics are probably the original factory mounts from a 88 vert S4 T-II. But the new mounts for vert and factory mounts for my 87 T-II looked identical. The original pic looks the same to me, but seeing the 'dimple' in the slot provides visual context...probably makes it look bigger.

Cheers.
