Motor loses power above 5000rpm

hi all,
I'm a complete newbie to rotary engines, but I am very keen to learn...
Anywayz this Car i want to buy is a rx7 series 2 with a fresh motor done 7000km... it seems to have a fair bit of torque down low for a rotary but above about 5-6000rpm it loses power. is this something to do with the carby? or fuel supply?

cheers,
chris.

i think series 2 is a fb chassis, you might have better shot at getting a awnser in the first gen section.
